Space Soldiers win EU Minor final after defeating EnVyUs 2-0
Space Soldiers claimed the $30,000 prize in Bucharest after beating EnVyUs, 2-0, on Cobblestone and Inferno.
Ahmet "paz" Karahoca kicked Cobblestone off in style, getting the three first frags of the pistol round on the terrorist side to give Space Soldiers the opening round. They weren’t able to follow it up, though, as two CZ75 frags followed by two AK47 kills all by Cédric "RpK" Guipouy gave Envy the tie and the early economic advantage.
An execute on A by Space Soldiers ended in a 2vs1 with paz and Buğra "Calyx" Arkın taking the round as Christophe "SIXER" Xia saved his M4 going into the sixth round. The Turkish team was then able to regain the lead after winning an eco round against pistols with 3-3 on the board. Envy weren’t ready to give the lead up, however, as Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer and RpK were able to outplay Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli and Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş in a 2vs2 afterplant on A to tie it back up.
They did eventually give it up, though, as "" won two, taking a 6-4 lead after ten rounds, and followed it up eco-bashing the French. Envy deflated as Space Soldiers took an 11-4 lead into the half, with XANTARES getting a quad-kill in the last round. After Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom opened the second pistol round with a triple, SIXER closed it out clutching a 1vs2 to keep his team alive. This time around Space Soldiers won the forcebuy and were able to follow it against a financially struggling Envy. Up 15-5, paz got a triple in mid double doors sealing the deal on the first map for Space Soldiers.
The second map, Inferno, kicked off with Envy taking the early lead on the terrorist side after winning the pistol rounds and the anti-ecos. The first gun round was a slow play up mid late in the round which ended in both teams trading frags but it was finally RpK with a double that tilted the scale towards his team, further increasing his team’s lead to 4-0.
Space Soldiers quickly brought it back, though, as they won five rounds in a row to take the lead for the first time in the half shutting down the French side’s slow attacks. Unable to break the CT wall set up by Space Soldiers, Envy went down 5-10 before switching sides. Despite winning the pistol round, Space Soldiers were unable to seal the deal early in the second half as they gave the anti-eco up.
Up 11-7, Space Soldiers were able to further their lead with a fast rotation from B to A with a 5vs3 advantage, planting without opposition and forcing the three remaining Envy players to save. A 1vs3 by Calyx defending the B site in an afterplant situation, with three headshots on the CTs, put 13-7 on the board forcing Envy to go on an eco. Down 7-15 Alexandre "xms" Forté was able to get an ace, and a big triple by RpK the following round got Envy back on track forcing Space Soldiers to eco.
The eco round was a disaster for Envy, as Happy and RpK found themselves in a 2vs2 afterplant against XANTARES and Calyx. The French leader was able to secure the round for his side to get the tenth on the board, but Space Soldiers were able to close it out in the following round to win the event and take the lion's share of the prize pool.
