FaZe cruise past OpTic; Liquid manage comeback against Renegades
FaZe breezed past OpTic, defeating them 16-3 on Overpass, while Liquid pulled off an unlikely comeback against the USTILO-powered Renegades.
FaZe were off to a dominant start against OpTic, playing the Terrorist side of Overpass. Clearly warmed up after their 30-round match against G2, Finn "karrigan" Andersen's squad went up 10-1 without many issues as OpTic players couldn't hold their own in duels.
One AWP and four pistols was the winning combination for OpTic in round 12, as Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas and Emil "Magisk" Reif did their best to give their side a lifeline. However, with no followup round, Adam "friberg" Friberg's team was limited to just three for their CT side.
With the help of Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács, Nikola "NiKo" Kovač resolved the 2v3 on A to make the score 13-3 in his team's favor, and FaZe wasn't going to let that lead slip away. Without any issues, they closed out the match 16-3 to secure their second win at IEM Oakland.

Renegades - Liquid took place on Cache, with the Australian side starting on the Terrorist side. Powered by Karlo "USTILO" Pivac, who had a 25-5 K-D after 12 rounds, Renegades were dominant, going up to a 12-2 lead. A clean force-buy win from Liquid gave the North Americans a lifeline, and they were able to go up to five rounds before the switch to the offensive side.
Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken's miraculous headshot-only quad kill saved Liquid in the pistol round, allowing them to get to 8-10. Renegades picked up the first buy, but rounds were traded back-and-forth which hurt Renegades' economy a lot. Slowly but surely, Liquid made their way back into the match and secured overtime as Justin "jks" Savage took out the last two players in the final round, but didn't have enough time to defuse the bomb.
A tight affair in the added rounds was swung the way of Liquid by Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, who picked up a masterful 4K in round 34, getting two early on and two in the 1v2 to clutch it out. In the end, Liquid managed to come back and close out the game 19-17.
