SK defeat OpTic to book spot at Oracle Arena
SK have earned a spot in the IEM Oakland semi-finals following a 2-0 victory over OpTic (16-2 on Overpass, 16-12 on Inferno).
The first quarter-final match of the event kicked off on Overpass, with SK securing a quick 3-0 lead following a successful B execution in the pistol round. Despite losing the first gun round, the Brazilians would increase their lead to 5-1 with a fast-paced style.
SK did not give their opponents any breathing room and closed out the half with a commanding 13-2 lead. Then, an ace from coldzera in the second pistol round set themselves up for a clean 16-2 finish.
OpTic got off to a much-needed flying start as Terrorists on their map pick, Inferno, securing a 6-1 advantage despite losing the first gun round – in part thanks to two clutch rounds from Emil "Magisk" Reif.
The Europeans did not back down and began the second half with yet another pistol round win. They would carry that momentum into the gun rounds, securing a narrow 11-9 lead following a quad-kill from Kevin "HS" Tarn in the pit, but then SK stepped up to the plate and won seven of the next eight rounds to take the map at 16-12.
