ESL Pro League S6 finals groups determined

The groups for the offline finals of the ESL Pro League Season 6 have been determined, ESL has revealed.

FaZe, the current No.1 team in the world, have been placed in Group Yellow, which includes Astralis and the new Liquid roster, while IEM Oakland champions NiP will have to pit their wits against the likes of North, SK and OpTic in Group Red.

FaZe will take on Astralis in the group stage

For the season 6 finals, ESL has introduced a new group pairing system, which sees the participants pick one team they want to avoid, who are placed in the opposite group, until both groups are complete. Previously, the final standings of the online portion of the league determined the groups for the offline event.

According to ESL, these changes were based on feedback received from the competing teams during the season 5 finals, where G2 were crowned champions over North.

The ESL Pro League Season 6 will culminate with an offline event from December 5-10 at the Sparekassen Fyn Arena, in Odense, with the bulk of the league's $750,000 prize fund at stake.

Below you can find the group draw in full:

Group Yellow Group Red
Sweden fnatic Europe OpTic
Europe FaZe Brazil SK
Denmark Astralis Denmark North
United States Liquid Sweden NiP
Europe HellRaisers United States Misfits
Brazil Luminosity North America NRG

Cut the groups in half, top down, then you have the winners of the groups. Of those three, take the bottom two, from each group you have the semis, the top two groups will reach the final.

2017-11-27 16:58
I dont know if id call that lucky. They have a good track record against SK on LAN (Atleast with Stan and felps) and North havent been seen in quite a while. The only major threat in that group is NiP who have also shown in the past that they can flop for long periods of time after a tourney win As opposed to FaZe, fnatic (Always played close with Liquid), Astralis with a pretty decent standin Groups are pretty even for the top teams imo
2017-11-22 21:40
LUL SK always lucky! NotLikeThis
2017-11-22 20:27
Its not luck. The teams chose the group. They got a better group because Fnatic was more afraid of them than of Faze.

Just because THE shit teams are better in group A then THE shit teams in group B, doesnt make group A better. Group B has more relevant Elite teams, which matters. Look at it this Way. Its all 1 group and only 5 would make it out. NiP, SK, North, Astralis, FaZe. That would make it 60% from group B. Fnatic has nothing to show yet on Lan which makes Them irrelevant, optic can make playoffs in Tier 1 tournaments at least so ranking fnatic over optic on your list only shows a biased opinion lol
2017-11-23 21:11
so only good teams matter now? group A is way more competitive and just look at brazilian all saying SK got lucky, you're the biased one anyways nip will go back to irrelevancy probably starting here for another year

Agreed. 2-3 spots should be enough for NA, everybody knows that rest of the spots are wasted. Even teams like Liquid seem so weak against EU teams. SK is pretty much the only one to be taken seriously from NA. Clown9 is inconsistent as fuck and Liquid would not make it to LANs if they had to qualify in EU.

So, if I'm not mistaken: fnatic wanted to avoid SK; OpTic wanted to avoid FaZe; FaZe wanted to avoid North; SK wanted to avoid Astralis; Astralis wanted to avoid NiP; North wanted to avoid Liquid; Liquid wanted to avoid Misfits; NiP wanted to avoid Hellraisers; Hellraisers wanted to avoid NRG; and Luminosity was left over, in that order.
2017-11-22 21:16

Brazil nnz
Almost right, you only got the order wrong. It was: fnatic avoided SK OpTiC avoided FaZe SK avoided Astralis FaZe avoided North Astralis avoided NiP North avoided Liquid NiP avoided Hellraisers Liquid avoided Misfits Hellraisers avoided NRG Only difference it was what was actually available for "avoiding", so like faze probably would avoid astralis over north and liquid would probably avoid hellraisers over misfits =P
2017-11-22 22:35
Ah, yes, so I did. I thought it alternated Y, R, Y, R, Y, R, Y..., not Y, R, R, Y, Y, R, R.... Thanks for the corrected information. This makes more sense now, as to why group Y is more stacked than group R. Source confirming nnz: hltv.org/news/22079/esl-pro-league-s6-fi..
