Astralis to use RUBINO for ESL Pro League Finals

The Danish organization has announced that they would be using Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel instead of Nicolai "device" Reedtz for the upcoming LAN finals of ESL Pro League.

Despite a report that Astralis could skip the ESL Pro League Finals if they would not be allowed to use their BLAST Pro Series stand-in Dennis "⁠dennis⁠" Edman at the event, the Danish organization will be attending the tournament on home soil, with Ruben "⁠RUBINO⁠" Villarroel stepping in.

RUBINO will be playing for Astralis in Odense

In the official announcement, Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen said that they aim to reach the playoffs and play in front of the local fans:

"First of all, we look forward to playing and we will do our utmost to reach the playoffs in the arena in front of all the local fans. It was such a boost to have the home crowd behind us last weekend at BLAST, and for us it’s amazing to be able to play two big events on home soil."

"The competition is fierce and I have to say that playing with our 4th line-up in the last 4 tournaments does not exactly increase our possibilities to prepare optimally and to find our rythm on the team. That being said, I’ve had the chance to work with RUBINO before. He is an extremely skilled player, and it will be a great experience to have him on board for the coming events. We have had a great year, and we intend to finish the way we started!"

ESL came out with an explanation of their rules and rulings about certain cases, clarifying the difference between having dennis and having RUBINO play for Astralis.

First of all, to allow either to compete for Astralis, the team had to be granted an emergency transfer, since the transfer deadline already passed. That emergency transfer was approved by WESA due to Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz's medical condition.

However, since dennis competed for GODSENT all the way until the end of the regular season, playing his last match on November 12th, he was not allowed to be added to Astralis. The team was allowed to add a player that did not participate in the last match of ESL Pro League, and they decided for RUBINO.

Astralis also added that the Norwegian will be stepping in for them at the upcoming ECS Season 4 Finals, that will be held in Cancun, Mexico, mid-December.

He was one of the best support players in the world in North, now that he's out of the unstructured bullshit mess that was dignitas we can hopefully see him perform again. Only issue is that he was best when he played the same support/lateround role that Xyp9x likes to play, and Xyp9x was (imo) the one support player in the world better than Rubino at the time, so it will be interesting to see how Rubino adapts to a new role so quickly. Maybe he won't be as good of a sub as dennis, but I'd love to be proven wrong on that. And at least he'll be an upgrade over pimp no matter what.

Yeah there is a lot of debate about how good rubino is but he certainly is better than pimp

I really don't see why everybody overrates pimp so much, he's been underwhelming ever since the really old dignitas lineup. He's obviously by no means a bad player, just perpetually disappointing since he seems incapable of hitting his highest skill ceiling consistently

My god Rubino is sooo bad. i get that he speaks danish an the comms wil be better, but astralis needs the firepower that a guy like dennis could bring, would be better to bring a skilled loner an let him just go off an frag as hard he can then the rest use their team play to win. Not a bad choice. Rubino is a true teamplayer, speaks and understands danish (at least ingame), he doesn't need to shine personally, and will do his utmost to fulfill the role given to him. But it will take a change of style from Astralis, as Rubino's style of play is far from Dupreeh's.
