fnatic came from behind to beat OpTic Gaming 2-1 and progress to the semi-finals at the ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals.
The first match of the day in Odense began on Inferno, fnatic's map pick. Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson opened up the A site in the pistol round with three kills, but his effort did not bear fruits as Aleksi "allu" Jalli pulled off a 1v2 clutch to put OpTic in the lead.
A third-round buy from fnatic paid off and sparked the beginning of a great run from the Swedes, who would take a 5-2 lead. Emil "Magisk" Reif then rescued his team with two great individual actions, a double-kill spraydown in banana followed by a triple-kill over at the A site.
OpTic remained in control of proceedings and eventually took the lead at 6-5. With fnatic's economy in a poor shape, OpTic looked poised to end the half with a comfortable lead, but the Swedes picked up a round win on an extremely shoddy buy, which set them up for a 9-6 half.
Jesper "JW" Wecksell came up huge in the following pistol round with four kills on the A site to give fnatic an even bigger lead, but the Swedes lost control of the game once it reached the gun rounds. OpTic quickly realised that the B site was fnatic's Achilles' heel and they ruthlessly exploited that weakness, eventually winning the map in the 30th round following two key actions from Adam "friberg" Friberg in the closing stages of the half.
Next up was Train, where fnatic got off to a dream start, winning the opening eight rounds of the game as OpTic struggled to break through the Swedes' defense. Much to everyone's surprise, OpTic then got a round on the board on a very lacklustre buy, but they could not follow it up, with fnatic increasing their lead to 10-1.
With the AWP switched from Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas's hands into allu's, OpTic won two rounds in a row, the second thanks to a 1v2 clutch from the Finnish player. The following round would go to fnatic, but OpTic closed out the half on a winning note thanks to a triple kill from Kevin "HS" Tarn.
fnatic piled more misery on the struggling OpTic by taking the pistol round and the following anti-ecos. After getting their economy stabilised, OpTic made a slight comeback, but triple-kills from Robin "flusha" Rönnquist and JW eventually sealed the deal for the Swedes.
The decider map, Mirage, began with a successful full-on B execution from fnatic, which set them up for a 3-0 lead. After buying up, OpTic managed to get a footing in the game, which entered a scrappy phase as both teams failed to stamp their authority on proceedings.
fnatic came out with fire in their belly, winning seven rounds right off the bat to secure a 13-9 lead. It was only then that OpTic's offense finally came to life, with the European mixture twice bringing the deficit to a minimum. However, as the prospect of overtime loomed, fnatic, in true fnatic fashion, won the 30th round on an very weak buy to close out the map and seal passage to the next round.
