fnatic scrape past OpTic into EPL semi-finals

MIRAA

fnatic came from behind to beat OpTic Gaming 2-1 and progress to the semi-finals at the ESL Pro League Season 6 Finals.

The first match of the day in Odense began on Inferno, fnatic's map pick. Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson opened up the A site in the pistol round with three kills, but his effort did not bear fruits as Aleksi "allu" Jalli pulled off a 1v2 clutch to put OpTic in the lead.

A third-round buy from fnatic paid off and sparked the beginning of a great run from the Swedes, who would take a 5-2 lead. Emil "Magisk" Reif then rescued his team with two great individual actions, a double-kill spraydown in banana followed by a triple-kill over at the A site.

OpTic remained in control of proceedings and eventually took the lead at 6-5. With fnatic's economy in a poor shape, OpTic looked poised to end the half with a comfortable lead, but the Swedes picked up a round win on an extremely shoddy buy, which set them up for a 9-6 half.

Jesper "JW" Wecksell came up huge in the following pistol round with four kills on the A site to give fnatic an even bigger lead, but the Swedes lost control of the game once it reached the gun rounds. OpTic quickly realised that the B site was fnatic's Achilles' heel and they ruthlessly exploited that weakness, eventually winning the map in the 30th round following two key actions from Adam "friberg" Friberg in the closing stages of the half.

fnatic turned the series around after losing the opening map

Next up was Train, where fnatic got off to a dream start, winning the opening eight rounds of the game as OpTic struggled to break through the Swedes' defense. Much to everyone's surprise, OpTic then got a round on the board on a very lacklustre buy, but they could not follow it up, with fnatic increasing their lead to 10-1.

With the AWP switched from Oscar "mixwell" Cañellas's hands into allu's, OpTic won two rounds in a row, the second thanks to a 1v2 clutch from the Finnish player. The following round would go to fnatic, but OpTic closed out the half on a winning note thanks to a triple kill from Kevin "HS" Tarn.

fnatic piled more misery on the struggling OpTic by taking the pistol round and the following anti-ecos. After getting their economy stabilised, OpTic made a slight comeback, but triple-kills from Robin "flusha" Rönnquist and JW eventually sealed the deal for the Swedes.

OpTic almost took the final map to overtime

The decider map, Mirage, began with a successful full-on B execution from fnatic, which set them up for a 3-0 lead. After buying up, OpTic managed to get a footing in the game, which entered a scrappy phase as both teams failed to stamp their authority on proceedings.

With fnatic down 5-6, flusha pulled off a 1v2 clutch inside A to equalise the score once again, but then OpTic bagged the final three rounds of the half to secure a 9-6 lead.

fnatic came out with fire in their belly, winning seven rounds right off the bat to secure a 13-9 lead. It was only then that OpTic's offense finally came to life, with the European mixture twice bringing the deficit to a minimum. However, as the prospect of overtime loomed, fnatic, in true fnatic fashion, won the 30th round on an very weak buy to close out the map and seal passage to the next round.

I think it was the pressure - lets face it these guys have had zero pressure to succeed in years - now the experience will help them in the future.

what the hell are u talking about?, the only one in that roster who hasnt had pressure is hs. friberg has won a major. allu has played in multiple finals including a major final marathon. magisk and mixwell both have won a event and have played in playoffs. its just a fact mixwell cant main awp and he doesnt want to either. that is why he picked up allu for the team.

but they had to make a role change in the team cuz hs is so inexperienced and couldnt play the lurk role. they just had to gave him the entry role and make it easier for him.

ik he is more of the im feeling it awper. he cant main awp vs top10 teams cuz he is so inconsistent and he plays with emotions too much. if he misses a shot he looses confidence in his ability

good match, well played by Optic all things considered - still a pretty new team, not sure the allu/mixwell combo is viable long term, but it got them to the quarters so..

You saw a different match tan I did obviously - I saw a guy who is IGL often stepping up and showing composure when his guys were panicking. He is a good IGL and his job isn't to be top fragger - I thought overall he did a really good job the last 3 tournaments. Now his guys got a taste of the playoffs.
2017-12-08 20:03
Optic lost too much 5v3 situations. They should have win those rounds. Dunno, maybe nerves or maybe lack of skill or communication problems, but they should understand these mistakes ASAP
