Ghost Academy defeat SoaR; to ESEA MDL Global Challenge semi-final
Ghost Academy have secured their spot in the ESEA Season 26 MDL Global Challenge playoffs after beating SoaR 22-19 on Inferno.
The North American clash kicked off with SoaR picking up a quick 2-0 lead after winning the CT pistol, in which Logan "Voltage" Long opened up a way for his team with a trio of kills. In a third-round buy, Ghost Academy successfully executed A, breaking their opponents' economy to eventually secure a 3-2 score.
SoaR went on to equalize things off, but that would not stop Ghost Academy from increasing their lead to 5-3. Even though SoaR then managed to win the following round with nothing but CZs, Jason "neptune" Tran and co. did not let them follow that up.
The match continued to be a back-and-forth affair, but SoaR were still able to win three out of the final four rounds to reduce the deficit to a minimum by half-time, 7-8.
Now playing as Terrorists, the new ESL Pro League participants secured yet another pistol round, and followed that up with the subsequent anti-ecos to get back to the lead in the game, 10-8. As Ghost Academy had to work with their economy, Ryan "Snakes" Amann and his teammates took advantage of that situation and reached 12 rounds.
Although Ghost Academy were ready to put a halt on their opponents' momentum in the next round, Jack "xCeeD" Holiman stopped them with a 1v2 post-plant clutch, which included a key molotov play. That opened up a way for SoaR to hit match-point, but Ghost Academy did not want to throw in the towel, and immediately responded with a five-round streak to take the game to overtime.
Despite losing the first round of overtime while playing as Terrorists, SoaR switched to the CT-side with the lead, 17-16. However, the match would only finish in the second overtime, where Ghost Academy had a nearly-flawless performance to lock down the map, 22-19, and book their place in the ESEA Season 26 MDL Global Challenge playoffs.
