ESL Australia has announced the return of their national league for Oceania, which will feature an expansion of sixteen teams for the online league and half of them finding their way to the $20,000 AUD (~$15,670) LAN Finals in June.

ESL Australia & New Zealand Championship will consist of two seasons for 2018 (Season 6 and 7), with sixteen teams from the Oceanic region duking it out online for seven weeks per season. The online seasons will separate the teams into two groups of eight, where they will face each other in a best-of-two series per matchday.

Two years have gone by since the Season 1 champions Athletico were crowned

At the end of the first online regular season, the top four teams from each group will advance to the LAN Finals in June. It is likely to take place at the ESL Studios in Sydney, Australia due to the past five seasons being hosted there.

Fourteen teams have been invited to Season 6 of the ESL AU&NZ Championship:

Australia Athletico Australia Chiefs
Australia ORDER Australia Tainted Minds
Australia Grayhound Australia Legacy
Australia Riotous Australia Lucky7
Australia ex-Masterminds Australia Corvidae
Australia Ground Zero Australia Conspiracy
Australia Carnage Australia SSU

The remaining two teams will be determined through two open qualifiers in late February. Each open qualifier will feature a best-of-one, single-elimination bracket with the exception of the best-of-three grand final.

Here are the key dates mentioned in the announcement for ESL AU&NZ Championship Season 6:

If you are from the Oceanic region, you can register for the open qualifiers here.

All the good NZ players play for Aus orgs. Parallax was the last decent NZ team RIP, maybe the final Winterfox lineup counts as well I guess 3/5 NZ.

So Australian Pro League?? That's cool I guess bringing up more talent from other parts of the world but I thinks they should include teams from eastern Asia like tyloo and vici and flash and mogloz because those are the best Asian teams and I think they would do good in the "pro league"
2018-01-10 13:21
Well there's ESL ZEN league which is set up the same as EPL essentially. It has 6 teams in OCE and 6 teams in Asia and they have a online round robin with top 2 of each region have at a LAN final of 4 teams.

Seems like ESL are focusing more on this league for Oceania with the Zen league AU/NZ teams participating. Must mean bad news for Zen League. An APAC Pro League definitely needs to take place for this region to grow though imo. 4 from China 4 from AU/NZ and 4 from rest of Asia would be ideal.

Tbh the top 4 AU/NZ teams are really close in skill level, any team can beat anyone on there day. Then there is a bit of a gap to Athletico and Legacy who are probably 5 and 6. Something like China - Tyloo, Flash, ViCi, Eclipse OCE - Chiefs, Order, Grayhound, Tainted Minds Rest of Asia - MVP PK, 5Power, Recca, BOOT-DS
