STYKO: "The main goal is to gain Legends spot, after that we have nothing to lose"

January 13th, 2018 20:27

Martin "STYKO" Styk gave us an interview after mousesports became the first team to go 2-0 in the Swiss format, defeating Natus Vincere 16-2 on Mirage earlier today.

mousesports have gone 2-0 so far in the Swiss format, beating AVANGAR after the Kazakh side put up a solid fight on Mirage and Natus Vincere, once again on the same map, in dominant fashion.

STYKO gave props to AVANGAR, who put up a fight against mousesports yesterday

We then spoke to Martin "STYKO" Styk to get his thoughts on AVANGAR and the extremely one-sided match with Natus Vincere, as well as mousesports' preferences for the next round.

AVANGAR gave you a little bit of a run for your money in the first match, what made the match so hard for you?

It felt like we were coming into the match just too overconfident, I mean we didn't underestimate them at all, but we didn't expect that kind of a play from them, they were insanely good at aiming and also decision making that they were doing in clutches.

They were a tough opponent, I would say, I think there's a reason that CIS is getting these talented guys to the Major and I definitely don't think they'll go 0-3 like a lot of people predicted. If they do, it has to be something like pressure, because as players they are good, they're five good individuals. We came prepared into the match, we didn't antistrat them at all, but we came prepared in that matter, we just knew we were better and we can't respect them too much.

Moving on to the Na`Vi Mirage that was obviously very, very comfortable from start to finish. Anything you can say as to why you looked so good in that particular match?

It may sound really odd, but I feel like every round we had an entry frag and it just makes it so much easier, suNny was getting entry frags on mid, oskar against s1mple as well, chrisJ was getting entry frags. It's just much easier to play than we are 5v5, especially against a team like Na`Vi, we kind of know their tendencies, they like to create chaos on the map and then contact something on the side of the map, especially on Mirage, even through the smoke.

We kind of know that from practices that we play against them, we knew how to counter it, so it just felt like our calls were on point on CT side especially, whatever aggression we were doing it was the right call from chris or oskar, sometimes from Sergey, our coach, as well during pauses, so... We were doing well as a team, that wasn't such an interesting match for me, because on B I didn't have too much action, but it's Mirage.

I saw the picture that ropz put up on Twitter with mousesports strats which seem to be working out quite well, given oskar has four clutches to his name already, but what's more surprising is that chrisJ has been fantastic so far, top-fragging in both your matches. What are your thoughts on that, is there something about chrisJ, is he more motivated?

I think the reason for that performance is that chrisJ is playing Mirage really well, we have a really strong double AWP setup on Mirage and it's just very comfortable for him to play, and the fact that we had Mirages in both games just proves that we like to play it and chrisJ especially.

He's comfortable with calls on both sides, he knows what we are doing, it's just his playground on middle when it comes to the CT side, for example, so that's why he's having such a good performance and he's playing as well with an AWP as with the M4. He's on point, his form is just good right now.

You have a few hard options in the next round up ahead, with the other matches still yet to be played of course, is there any specific preference?

Well, we came to the Major not just to qualify for the next stage but also to beat everyone, so if you come with a mindset to qualify for the Major, you only need to beat half of the teams.

But we didn't come for that, if we meet FaZe, we'll be happy because it will show us where we're standing and if we put up a good fight or even win the game, it just proves that we are able to win this Major, even though not many people are expecting us to do any damage when it comes to the top eight. Anything can happen, especially if we have FaZe here at this stage, if we just play well, communicate well, it can just give us a confidence boost in hindsight, in later stages of the tournament.

Is the goal to win it all then?

Well, the goal for now is just to make it to the actual Major, the top 16, and from that point just step by step, the main goal is to gain the Legends spot.

After that, we will have nothing to lose basically, we'll probably be one of the teams that are underdogs in every matchup when it comes to the top eight. I expect teams like FaZe, SK, G2 coming into the top eight and we will be the underdogs in every matchup.

Mouz can definitely reach Top 8. This is the best LineUp Mousesports ever had in CSGO. And they have great history winning those majors in 1.6 so id be glad if they qualify for playoffs

what is the thing about cs players having the mentality of "oh well, we placed top 8. I guess we can call it a day."or "We got 2nd place whatever its good enough."

Think positive is a thing.
2018-01-14 06:04
sure you can be positive about it, but it comes to a point where I feel pro players are content with just having 4th,3rd, or 2nd. In every other sport, you think they care if they made playoffs? No, they only care about winning a championship
2018-01-14 15:20
Mouz are throwing to go to the legend stage lol
