Cloud9 overwhelm G2; through to Major semi-finals
Cloud9 have progressed to the semi-finals at ELEAGUE Major Boston after running out comfortable 2-0 winners over G2.
The final match of the day began on Mirage, Cloud9's map pick, but it was G2 who started the livelier of the two sides as they shut down the B site in the pistol round. Cloud9 then replied on a force-buy, with Timothy "autimatic" Ta picking up three great Deagle kills.
That was the start of a great run from the North Americans, who won seven of the next eight rounds to put G2 in danger of getting blown out. With their initial double AWP setup plan failing to produce results, the Frenchmen resorted to rifles to hold back their opponents. A quad kill from Richard "shox" Papillon near the T ramp, followed by a triple kill from Dan "apEX" Madesclaire on catwalk, gave G2 a footing in the game, with the half ending in a close 8-7 scoreline.
Cloud9 came from the break with fire in their bellies, winning five rounds straight to increase their lead to 13-7. A miraculous doublekill from apEX in a 3v4 post-plant situation still gave G2 fans some hope, but Cloud9 rallied back immediately, resetting the Frenchmen and setting themselves up for a comfortable 16-8 win.
The North Americans were able to carry their momentum into Overpass, despite this being one of their weaker maps. They won the pistol round in convincing fashion, only losing one player in the process, and denied their opponents' third-round buy with a 1v2 clutch from William "RUSH" Wierzba.
After getting their economy back on track, G2 finally found a breather as they won two rounds in a row, but then Cloud9 took control of proceedings, a wasted 3v2 post-plant situation in the eighth round the perfect example of the state of disarray the Frenchmen were in. The North Americans' economic control was simply crushing, and they shut down any chances of G2 building up an economy or stringing rounds together, closing out the half with a dominant 12-3 lead.
G2 then found a lifeline as they picked up the pistol round and the subsequent anti-ecos. But once the game reached the gun rounds it was all over for shox's men, who saw their opponents reach match point by taking three rounds in a row. A quad kill from Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro merely delayed the inevitable as Jake "Stewie2K" Yip hammered the final nail into G2's coffin with a 1v2 clutch in the next round to send Cloud9 through to the last-four stage.
