Liquid have got their cs_summit 2 campaign off to a great start after beating NiP 2-1 (3-16 on Inferno, 16-8 on Cobblestone and 16-14 on Overpass).
The series kicked off on Liquid's map pick, Inferno, but it was NiP who came out the brighter of the two as they stormed to a quick 5-0 lead as CTs. The Swedes continued to keep things tight and frustrate their opponents, forcing the North Americans to call a tactical pause in the eighth round.
That was when Liquid were finally able to pick up their first round after finding a rare opener. Still, NiP immediately responded in the next round to reset Liquid's economy, with the Swedes going on to take a commanding 14-1 lead.
NiP further added to their lead by taking the pistol round, this way hitting map point, but then Liquid showed they still had some fight left in them. But it was simply too little, too late, as the Swedes quickly wrapped things up to take the lead in the series.
On Cobblestone, NiP looked set to win their third pistol of the series, but Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken shut down a drop to A execution with a clean USP quad-kill. Despite the Swedish squad then bagging the first gun round after building up their economy, the North Americans replied with a solid A stack to regain control of proceedings.
NiP would still find a lifeline in the 11th round after overturning a 3v5 situation, but they found it very hard to break through the stern Liquid defense and took just two rounds into the second half.
The Ninjas still tried to get back in the game, not letting their opponents string rounds together or build up an economy in the second half, but Liquid eventually locked down the map, 16-8, to take the series to Overpass.
Liquid began the decider map on the T-side and with their third successful pistol of the tie. Keith "NAF" Markovic's new squad carried their momentum into the gun rounds, eventually securing a 5-0 lead.
Then, William "draken" Sundin came up huge with an AWP triple-kill on long to help NiP win their first round of the map, with the Swedes following it up with two more rounds. Liquid regained their composure and restored a five-round lead, but another great run from NiP saw them bring the deficit to a minimum before the end of the half.
The last pistol round of the series went the Swedes' way as they were able to take control of the A site and prevail in a post-plant situation. That was the start of a great run from NiP, who won five of the next six rounds to take 13-9 lead.
With the game slipping away from them, Liquid tightened up their defense, losing just one more round before locking down the map, 16-14, to book their spot in the tournament's Upper Bracket semi-final.
