Heroic pull off Nuke comeback to eliminate NiP
Heroic have moved on in the lower bracket following a comeback on the CT side of Nuke against NiP, winning the series 2-1 (Train 16-11, Inferno 7-16, Nuke 16-14).
Heroic started off their pick, Train, with a 5-1 lead with an inner push in the pistol round and trading the first gunrounds to punish NiP's economy. William "draken" Sundin's opening kills then gave the Swedes their second and third round, while an outer execute from the Danish side set the score to 6-3.
Before the half ended, NiP were able to stabilize and grab four out of the remaining six rounds, as draken put up another double kill and Richard "Xizt" Landström chimed in with a triple in separate rounds for a 7-8 half.
The score was soon 10-8 after NiP clinched the second pistol, although Patrick "es3tag" Hansen turned two unfavorable situations around in the first two gunrounds and evened it out at 10 apiece. The next round went the Swedes way, but another clutch by es3tag reset his opponents' economy and Heroic soon won the map 16-11.
Heroic once again got off to the better start on Inferno, going up 3-0 after a pistol round win on the CT side, opting for an aggressive push down middle. NiP took over in the first full buys, as after a few slow executes they were up 5-3 on the offense.
Jakob "JUGi" Hansen's two opening kills running around the map gave Heroic their fourth, but the Swedish squad replied with two in a row to go up 7-4. Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer & co. fended off the next two attacks, but a forcebuy and a quick A explosion from halls saw NiP close out the half with a 9-6 lead.
draken's triple in the pistol round, securing NiP a 11-6 scoreline, spelled trouble for Heroic, who were then unable to convert the first buys. Only one round went their way while Xizt's team put up a dominant defense, pushing the series to map three, Nuke.
The next four rounds were then decided by 1v2 clutches, with NiP getting away with three of them, two of which by Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and one by draken. That allowed the defense to finally rack up economy and get away with a great 10-5 half, with just one lower bombsite attack going the way of Heroic.
NiP added a second pistol round on top of it to go up 13-5, in prime position to close out the series, but there was still life left in Heroic who started stringing rounds together one after another following Andreas "MODDII" Fridh's smart 1v2 clutch. It took the Swedes ten rounds to finally break through the defense with an explosive strategy on A, making the score 14-14. Heroic however kept the pressure up and fended off the next two attacks, moving on in the lower bracket following a 16-14, 2-1 victory in the series.
