FACEIT to host next Major in London

ECS organisers FACEIT will host the next $1 million Counter-Strike Major in London, the UK-based company has confirmed.

The second Major of 2018 will culminate with a live event from September 20-23 at the 10,000-seater SSE Arena, Wembley, which staged the offline finals of the first and the third ECS seasons.

This will be the first Major hosted by FACEIT, which becomes the sixth company to run an event of this magnitude together with Valve, joining a list that includes DreamHack, ESL, MLG, ELEAGUE and PGL. It will also be the first Major to be held in the UK, following stops in Sweden, Poland, Germany, Romania and the United States.

SSE Arena will stage the next Major

In addition to hosting the Major, FACEIT will run the online qualifiers for all regions as well as the Minors as it looks to "provide consistency and cohesion to the Major".

The FACEIT Major will continue to feature 24 teams, following the expansion that was introduced by Valve ahead of the ELEAGUE Major. Sixteen of those teams have been determined, while the last eight sides will come from the Minors that will be hosted across the globe.

Below you can find the 16 teams already confirmed for the FACEIT Major as a result of their run at ELEAGUE Major Boston:

I think volvo has banned thooorin from their own events already. At least DH, ESL and ELEAGUE does not seem to want him anymore conidering the salty tweets thooorin spews out towards those orgs. I think he has not been in Faceit ECS either at least on two previous iterations. Only Russian orgs seem to use him anymore as analyst, because Russians probably think just like thooorin.

Interesting news though, according to faceit official on reddit, the playoffs will last 4 days with no planned overlaps for any teams. That means we'll likely be seeing a BO5 final, as they can fit quarters into 2 days, semis into one day and then a BO5 final into one.

This new system is completely stupid. Basically if you were "legends" (aka top 8 of previous Major with 16 teams) you're basically ensured you will play the next 2 Majors (with 24 teams) because in the first next one you will be Legends and at least top 16 and you are ranked 9-16th at that Major (with 24 teams, basically if you don't get to the playoffs) you will be qualified to the New Challengers Stage on the following Major. Basically BUG will enjoy in September 2018 their top 8 qualification (because of 3 BO1 in Inferno OMEGALUL) of the July 2017's Major ... The whole scene told Valve that in 6 months (from a Major to another one) teams' form change a lot and it was basically retarded to have 8 Legends, but now if you get to top 8 to a Major you're sure to get top 16 to the following one thus qualify to the Major+2 with 24 teams.

Well it's like the major qualifier really, the challengers stage I mean, so basically the system runs like before. Only difference is that they are leeching sticker money for the next major, sadly.

Yeah that thing that you're not fully at "the real Major" when you're at the Challengers Stage (24 teams but still not sure to reach the last 16) but still getting stickers make irrelevant teams make massive undeserved stickers money like VP because they got to top 8 one year before (2 Majors before) shows that Valve is only interested in making $$$$ with washed up teams with big fanbase (VP/NiP) or teams that wouldn't "ever" qualify to a real Major (TyLoo/Flash, some CIS teams), so they give them stickers. Valve is not as interested in the quality of the competition as long as stickers money flow for teams that wouldn't have reached a 16 teams Major ever.

That new system in Majors is completely stupid. How does a team like VP who went 0-3 (16 rounds won in 3 games) is qualified to the next Major ? OMEGALUL

Ehh, do you even understand how the system works? The new challengers stage is basically the old major qualifier, so in fact they aren't qualified for the next major per say. They are qualified for the first stage, where if they go out, which let's be honest, they probably will, they will next time have to go through minor quals, the minor, etc etc.

I replied to "myself" on #388 as someone else noticed the same problem (#250). Basically VP and BUG got top 8 in summer 2017 Major, they are qualified to January 2018 Major. To this point everything is fine. But on January 2018 they lost 0-3 and 1-3 (basically ranked 9th-16th) and are still qualified to summer 2018 (9 months later LUL, when everyone told Valve that 6 months between Majors made the "legends" concept totally irrelevant as some "legends" totally lost their form) because of a top 8 finish in summer 2017 Major (2 Majors before) because they extended the system to 24 teams instead of 16. Basically if you get to top 8 once at a Major you are sure to be top 16 in the next one (as it was the case in the past with 16 teams legends) and qualified to the "Major+2" one year later on the New Challengers Stage among the 24 teams. Completely stupid : BUG basically won 3 BO1 on Inferno and qualified to 2 Majors (top 16 ensured in the following one and top 24 ensured for 2018 Summer Major) because of these 3 BO1. This is beyond absolutely retarded. 1 year in esports is an eternity ...

I hate to say it, but beyond all the fancy words they use, it really is the same system as before. Challengers Stage = Old major qualifier. Legends Stage = Old major group stage. Champion Stage = Old major playoffs. The ONLY thing - but this is something I'm really fucking pissed about too - is the fact that they are leeching sticker money for a major they do not deserve getting money from until properly qualified. I guess they would have to do this, because holding a big mash up qualification that may cause 16 entirely new teams to enter the challengers stage - say if around 8 of them are nonamers - we will have problems with viewers for real. It's all about the viewership tbh. Otherwise - I do agree with you. I'm just saying the only change really made here is that they are secured sticker money along with the 8 teams completing the minors, which is also stupid, because those 8 teams BARELY need to prove themselves.

Now that the Major Qualifier is "the new challengers stage" you can be top 24 and still make stickers money allowing teams like BUG or VP to slump from top 8 in the first Major, to top 16 in the second one to top 24 (challengers stage) to the third one making these teams sure to cash stickers money for the next 2 Majors after a top 8 finish instead of being sure of making money to only the next one (when 16 teams only reached the Major, because if you went from top 8 to top 16 the next step lower would be the Major Qualifier, without stickers money). Thank you for reminding me that it was the "same" system but the transition to 24 teams totally changed the fact that now a top 8 finish allows you to bank money for at least the next 2 Majors (worst case you could go is top 16 to the next Major and top 24 to the following one).
