mousesports defeat G2 to secure semi-finals spot
mousesports are through to the StarSeries i-League Season 4 semi-finals after beating G2 2-0 (16-7 on Inferno, 16-11 on Mirage).
The third quarter-final of the day kicked off on G2's map pick, Inferno, with the Frenchmen securing their T-side pistol fairly easily. After following that up with the subsequent anti-ecos, however, it was an heavy-duty job for Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and co. to get through mousesports' defence.
Despite most of the rounds in the first half having been a back-and-forth affair, Chris "chrisJ" de Jong's men kept denying G2 from stringing any rounds together, and got to half-time with a 9-6 lead.
The European mixture carried that momentum into the second half and picked up the pistol much thanks to a triple-kill from Miikka "suNny" Kemppi. Still, Robin "ropz" Kool had to play a key role in the next anti-eco by clutching a 1v3 situation to set his team up for a 12-6 lead.
A nearly-flawless gun round then went G2's way, but suNny and Tomáš "oskar" Šťastný responded in convincing fashion, turning around a 3v5 situation to break their opponents' economy. From that point, it was all about mousesports, who went on to finish off the map without losing any more rounds.
Starting out as Terrorists on mousesports' map pick, Mirage, G2 seemed set to secure the pistol round, but a simple, yet successful, smoke defuse from Martin "STYKO" Styk led his team to grab the initial 3-0 lead.
The Frenchmen won the first gun round, but, just like on the previous map, mousesports would not let them follow that up. Even after G2 picked up the next round on a shoddy buy thanks to two Deagle entries from Richard "shox" Papillon, mouz remained in the driving seat.
In fact, G2 would only be able to get back on the board by the end of the half, when they strung the final two rounds to reduce the deficit to 4-11. In the second half, G2 found some breathing room in the series after losing only one of the first five rounds.
Although mousesports then won a sloppy buy thanks to a Deagle triple-kill from STYKO and a 1v2 clutch from suNny, G2 immediately reset their economy, forcing the European mixture to call a tactical pause.
That pause bore many fruits for mouz, who played the following rounds aggressively to wrap things up, 16-11, and book their spot in the event's semi-final.
