Liquid defeat FaZe to finish third at StarSeries i-League S4

Liquid secured a 2-1 win over FaZe (Nuke 16-3, Inferno 26-28, Mirage 16-4) in the third place decider match at StarSeries i-League Season 4.

FaZe went for an unconventional pick of Nuke in this series, starting the map as Terrorists. In the pistol round, the Europeans opted for an A site rush, which was quickly denied by Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken who aced FaZe with five USP-S headshots. Off the back of that, Liquid was able to go 3-0, and then extended their lead to 6-1 shortly.

Finn "karrigan" Andersen and co. were struggling on the offensive side of the map, with the economy not doing them any favours. After FaZe picked up their second round by taking over A, they were once again replied to instantly by Liquid and forced on another force-buy and then eco before they could buy.

The same continued throughout the half, FaZe were unable to find picks in their buys and Liquid switched sides with a 12-3 lead. Lucas "steel" Lopes opened up the second pistol while Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski and Keith "NAF" Markovic closed it with two kills each, which combined with clean anti-ecos meant that the North American side was on match point before FaZe could buy. With a slow play that started towards B but finished on A in the first gun round, Liquid finished Nuke and took the 1-0 map lead.

Liquid ran over FaZe on Nuke

Inferno started well for Liquid, who kicked off the second map on the CT side as well. Early on, FaZe was closest to winning a round when Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács made a 1v3 into a 1v1, but Twistzz managed to shut him down with an HE grenade (4-0).

In another buy round, FaZe took mid control and were getting ready to make a play towards the site when Liquid went for a mid retake, using their economic lead and the plethora of utility to their advantage.

Liquid didn't slow down after that, going up to 12 rounds before a reply from FaZe, with NAF standing out throughout. GuardiaN then opened up on Nick "nitr0" Cannella and FaZe took over B to get on the board, while Håvard "rain" Nygaard salvaged the followup with an ace-clutch in a 1v3.

The Europeans managed to finish the half with three rounds and start their comeback attempt by securing the CT pistol (12-4). Liquid won the first buy convincingly, but a GuardiaN 3K in the following round stopped them from gaining any momentum and saw FaZe get the score back to 13-9 as the Slovakian sniper secured an anti-eco ace in round 22.

A couple of rounds later GuardiaN secured another ace, this time on a full buy round as Liquid tried to wrap the B site, and FaZe managed to get into the lead and onto match point. Liquid replied, with Twistzz pulling off a magnificent 1v2 to force overtime.

The two teams fought overtime after overtime and the map was finally closed in overtime number four. The score was 28-25 when FaZe were on map point with a 1v3 advantage, but steel clutched the round on B to extend it. However, the map was finalized shortly, as FaZe won the following round to win Inferno and tie the series 1-1.

GuardiaN had a couple of crazy rounds on Inferno

The decider map, Mirage, began with Twistzz picking up a quad-kill in the pistol round to put Liquid in the lead. After buying up, FaZe managed to get a round on the board, but the North Americans quickly regained control of proceedings. For the rest of the half, the rounds edged out by karrigan's side were few and far between, with Liquid cruising to a 12-3 half-time lead.

More misery was heaped on FaZe, who lost the pistol round following a fast B execution from Liquid. A gun round win from FaZe when the North Americans were already on match point merely delayed the inevitable as the finishing blow would come in the next round.

Let me guess: -karrigan? May be offer smart options to replace him and not make things worse? Who can lead them better than karrigan? Before specifying names also check their results within the last 12 months and then tell why exactly their contribution to those results was great. Before "fixing" FaZe you should also fix Astralis, G2, Gambit, North - go on, find better IGLs for them, Astralis also lost to Na`Vi, while G2 loses every playoff, Gambit showed nothing after that major win, North looks poor despite having good players. FaZe lost to Liquid? SK also lost to Liquid, so what? Kick FalleN?.. Cloud9 after the major lost to Liquid at summit and to mouz, it's so bad, let's kick somebody, because it will definitely make things better, right? You still live in 2012 when NiP went 87-0 and you think that there can be a team of same dominance, but the last team that dominated was fnatic, it lasted 4 months and then fnatic's performance dropped and never came back. Stop overrating teams like G2 and FaZe, they will not be as dominant as NiP and fnatic were 3-5 years ago. Even if FaZe picks FalleN it will not make them consistently dominant, because the others also can aim and hit their shots, and there are the other IGLs that sometimes make the difference with their strats. And kicking an IGL will never make better players out of NiKo or olofm, they have their ups and downs and will always be like that, rain also have bad matches, they're people and not robots. Just stop flooding HLTV with dumb threads about changing lineups, it doesn't work this way.

Top 10 Ways To Waste Your Time
2018-02-25 19:54
Couldn't agree more, people with 0 sense of game or team chemistry just think that it's easy to chuck a player because they lost a match. For heaven's sake they can't win them all can they? Faze is still on paper the best roster there is right now and if they can't win a match or two here and there then it's not a big deal. CS has evolved, young talents have revolutionised the game and it's not all strats and hitting the shots any more, the mechanics, the luck, the risks, they all factor in and they can't really control that to a definitive extent. It is an interesting era of CS surely, upsets everywhere, underdogs winning tournaments out of nowhere; and it would be amazing to have a community that could for one second stop being so toxic and enjoy the game for what it is, while it lasts.
2018-02-25 19:55
Also i'm pretty sure faze used the 3rd place match to kinda use as practice so obviously they were trying out new things.
2018-02-25 20:05
Yeah, $10k means almost nothing to faze, they tried some stuff perhaps, had pathetic T sides for sure but it was actually evident that they weren't really in the game. Who knows, maybe someone else was calling and they were trying out some different stuff. It's just a third place match, losing it does little harm.

I agree. Also every team is different, Gambit with Zeus was a good example of a team that can reach better results than expected with stability. However, a team like Titan with Ex6tenZ was very disappointing and it never really worked (except this KQLY period). FaZe have great talent and results. At the moment, it is unnecessary to change anything, but if the struggle continues, they will also start to consider this kind of thing.
2018-02-25 20:20
+1 Well thought and organized (and true) little prompt ya got there, really gives me hope that there is at least someone on this website with an average IQ, or even a brain. Couldn't argue with the point you came across there. It is great that NA can sometimes pull off a huge win against EU or something, but on paper, FaZe is still the best team in the world. NA has to respect that, and EU has to respect NA when they get those wins as well.

I think that it is very close between liquid and C9. Since the addition of NAF liquid is 4-0 against faze, sk, and C9 in BO3s and the BO5 vs C9. However it’s still early and I don’t think that we can say right now. It will be interesting to see how both liquid and C9 do in Katowice.
2018-02-25 20:59
Didnt c9 beat liquid in that bo3

Ok you’re right they did lose a BO3 against C9 in the group stage at summit. Not that that doesn’t matter but liquid did then beat C9 in a BO5 in the final.
2018-02-26 17:42
True, but that kinda shows you hoe volatile the cs teams are atm, every1 in the top 7-8 can best eachother
2018-02-27 11:29

Liquid secured a 2-1 win over FaZe (Nuke 16-3, Inferno 28-26, Mirage 16-4) in the third place decider match at StarSeries i-League Season 4. Shouldn't it be 26-28?

-KarrigaN He is Not a good IGL , he knows he have NiKO,RAIN,OLOF,GuardiaN in his team , but he don't have any tatics, any strats , KarrigaN Strats : GO KILL EVERYONE NIKO,GUARDIAN..... Liquid , nitr0 was a entry fragger and now he is the IGL for the team and they are playing better than before , same with stanislaw in optic or ChrisJ on mouz or Shox in Old G2 with ScreaM , they are not IGL before , and they are now and they are really good at leading his team in game , When karrigan still in astralis/TSM they choked in major semi finals and more , when they kicked this BOT for gla1ve (gla1ve not even the IGL on heroic at that time) they won the major and +2 big tournaments,They finally beat SK on overpass and bo3 , and karrigaN can't make that with FaZe, karrigan still with this choking problemns , like in the major final or vs SK -karrigan +xizt/taz/Pronax/Snappi/

FaZe should not be #1 following this event, but I guess we will have to wait and see how they perform at Katowice.
2018-02-25 20:05
how? who else will be first then when every other top 5 team finished before them....

what I really mean by this is I don't feel they deserve #1, but as you said no one in the top 5 placed above them. So if they play poorly at ESL1K, boot them from that spot.

2018-02-25 20:17
When your teammates are the 3 best NA players and nitr0 who is near the top.. then you look to provide value in other ways. The big question is he providing value. We shall see. He gets more time. He's had a few clutch rounds. He's also had some poor trade opportunities. But yes, he'll always bottom frag with these players.

I love this. CSGO really has a competitive field right now. Feels like all the top teams can beat each other, and that some of the less teams can definitely upset. That's just a great place for the scene to be.
2018-02-25 20:20
Everyone talking of Faze. This team Liquid is on the rise up. Big time potential.
