Liquid, Cloud9 pick up wins in Katowice
Liquid have defeated Gambit 16-10 on Mirage, while Cloud9 have survived a scare against TyLoo scare on Inferno, 16-14.
In their first appearance in Katowice, Liquid and Gambit battled it out on Mirage. As Terrorists, the North American team got off to the better start after winning the initial three rounds, but then Gambit responded with a four-round winning streak to bag a minimum lead.
Nevertheless, a loose CZ-buy went Liquid's way, and, from that point, Nick "nitr0" Cannella's men further added to their lead, 7-4. Gambit countered the North Americans in the next round, however, and, except for the last round of the half, constantly denied them from finding any breaches on the defence.
In the second half, Keith "NAF" Markovic could not close out a 1v2 situation, but then his team stacked on A to counter their opponents' anti-eco and set themselves up for an 11-8 lead. Liquid further increased their lead with a successful gun round, and, despite losing two more rounds, they would wrap things off quite easily, 16-10.

The match on the secondary stream kicked off on Inferno, with Cloud9 picking up the first pistol as CTs. TYLOO responded well in a third-round buy, eventually equalizing things at 2-2, but the North Americans then got back to the lead in an eco round with two saved UMPs.
Although TYLOO were able to win their third round thanks to a triple-kill from Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand in a 2v3 post-plant situation, Cloud9 immediately rallied themselves to a 7-3 lead. However, the Chinese side replied with a shoddy yet successful CZ-buy, and lost only two more rounds to reduce the deficit to 6-9 by half-time.
Ke "captainMo" Liu opened up the second half with an impressive quad-kill, setting his team up for a 9-9 tie. Cloud9 would hit 14 rounds fairly easily after winning five rounds in a row, but TYLOO came up huge with a very tight defence to equalize things off. However, an heroic 1v3 post-plant clutch from Tyler "Skadoodle" Latham then paved the way for Cloud9 to close out the map, 16-14.
