ESL have revealed details of IEM Sydney qualifiers in Europe and North America, each of which will award one spot at the $250,000 tournament.

The qualifiers in both regions will feature the same two-step process, starting with an open stage with an unlimited amount of teams, from which the finalists will advance to the closed stage.

Six invited teams will join the aforementioned two teams in the closed qualifier, which will be played in a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket. Only the winners in each region will secure a ticket to IEM Sydney, taking place on May 1-6.

The European and North American qualifiers will award one spot in each region

The open stage will run from March 27 to 28 in both regions. Teams interested in taking part can sign up for the European qualifier here, or the North American qualifier here. The closed qualifier will follow on March 29-30.

+1 16 team tournament with 6 local teams is better then 8 team tournament based solely off invites.

au teams need to gain experience to deliver on that kind of events but they're already better than washed up vp Anyway, I think 6 au/asia spots is too many ffs
2018-03-13 17:39
Those are just qualifying spots, the filler teams basically. All the heavy hitters will be or have been invited.

Its a tournament for Australien/Asian timezones. Obvious they try to get more asian/australian teams in to get some viewers.
2018-03-13 17:15
Hopefully atleast out of the 4 AU teams at the tournament atleast one will make it to playoffs just so we can see the unleashed crowd.

+1 yes based on teams it won't be a t1 event in my opinion. Maybe the IEM and the prize money is t1 but not 6 Teams or more from Asia/Oceania.
2018-03-13 21:23
Get over it. They increased the teams from 8 to 16 to factor in 6 local teams.
