Renegades secure the final spot to DreamHack Masters Marseille after defeating OpTic 2-1 (16-7 on Train, 13-16 on Overpass, and 16-8 on Inferno).
The semifinals saw Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz’ OpTic sweep past NRG as Renegades and the Brazilians of Luminosity forced the decider on Inferno, where Noah "Nifty" Francis and his men claimed their spot in the final.
The series started on Renegades' map pick, Train, where a four kill round by Justin "jks" Savage in the post-plant secured the pistol and a 3-0 lead on the T-side. OpTic finally got on the board in their buy round, thanks to Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and stanislaw each holding the line with a pair of doubles. OpTic began to string together a few more rounds to take the lead 4-3, but Renegades responded with a quick push through outside, where Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad and jks each picked up a pair of Deagle kills to end the streak.
The sides switched but nothing changed for OpTic as Renegades continued to press on picking up the second pistol and the following anti-eco’s. OpTic were able to pick up two, but when Renegades got a buy of their own they were able to pick up three more and take the lead in the series.
stanislaw’s OpTic looked to get back on their map pick, Overpass, as OpTic did just that riding on the back of k0nfig's 19-kills in the 6-1 lead for the CT-side. Renegades tried to get back into the mix but OpTic were composed and took the first half 11-4. Renegades got the start they needed in the second half with a smooth retake on B to secure the second pistol. The following round would be brought to an end by jkaem, who sprayed down the B-site for a triple to secure the anti-eco.
OpTic got right back into the swing of things when gade picked up two kills on the post-plant to help secure their first round of the second half. From there, both teams began to trade rounds until Renegades's CT-side began grind down OpTic’s economy, winning four straight. Both teams pulled together a pair of rounds but it was René "cajunb" Borg who came out on top in a 1v1 on map point to send the series to the decider.
It all came down to Inferno, where Renegades came out of the gates red-hot to pick up a quick 3-0 lead. cajunb and stanislaw both held the line on the A-site with a pair of doubles to secure OpTic’s first round. OpTic was unable to establish anything from their round won as Renegades sailed through the first half for a 10-5 lead.
The second half started with Renegades picking up the second pistol and the anti-eco, but OpTic reduced the deficit by four rounds with three straight of their own. However, Renegades kept their composure to pick up the remaining four rounds and claim their ticket to DreamHack Masters Marseille.
