FACEIT reveal Major qualifier details

The biggest change in the online portion is the introduction of BO3 matches in the Closed Qualifier, the last stage preceding the Minors.

FACEIT, the host of the upcoming CS:GO Major, have released an outline of the qualifying process for the prestigious tournament that will be held in London at the end of September.

The road to London will, of course, start with Open Qualifiers which will be held for nine different regions. Europe, CIS and North America will all feature four open qualifiers, with eight teams advancing to the closed stage, where eight more invited ones will join them.

The remaining six regions, which include the likes of South America, Oceania, and China, will have Open Qualifiers leading directly to their respective Minor Championships.

The qualifiers for the Major in September will start in May

The Open Qualifiers will take place between May 14 and June 17, with up to 1024 teams able to compete in the single-elimination bracket. The exact dates for the individual qualifiers and signups are available here.

You can find the outline of the Open Qualifiers for different regions below:

Europe 4x Quals   8 teams to EU Closed Qual.
CIS 4x Quals   8 teams to CIS Closed Qual.
N. America 4x Quals   8 teams to NA Closed Qual.
S. America 2x Quals   2 teams to the Minor
India + SEA 1x Quals   2 teams to the Minor
East Asia 1x Quals   1 team to the Minor
ME. Asia 1x Quals   1 team to the Minor
Oceania 1x Quals   1 team to the Minor
China 1x Quals   1 team to the Minor

In total, the following number of teams will be found through the Open Qualifiers, while the rest is expected to be filled through invites:

Europe 8 teams   EU Closed Qualifier
CIS 8 teams   CIS Closed Qualifier
N. America 8 teams   NA Closed Qualifier
S. America 2 teams   Americas Minor
Asia 6 teams   Asia Minor

As outlined in the table above, South America and Asia won't feature Closed Qualifiers, they will only be used three regions: Europe, CIS, and North America. All three tournaments will use the same format, the Swiss system with all matches being played as BO3, and will feature 16 teams—eight qualified and eight invited ones.

The only difference to note is that the North American Closed Qualifier will only have six teams advancing to the Minor, with the last two spots being filled through the South American Open qualifier.

The Closed Qualifiers will be held as follows:

CIS   North America   Europe
1-3 June   22-24 June   29 June - 1 July
Swiss BO3   Swiss BO3   Swiss BO3
8 qual. + 8 inv. teams   8 qual. + 8 inv. teams   8 qual. + 8 inv. teams
Top 8 to CIS Minor   Top 6 to Am. Minor   Top 8 to EU Minor

Details about the Minors and the Challengers, Legends, and Champions stage have not yet been released, but will be announced on FACEIT Major's tournament info hub. Tickets for the live event, which will be held in the SSE Arena in London, are available for purchase here.

Nice Edit: ooh bo3 swiss nice

I agree, I think hellraisers would have a high af buyout for him though
2018-04-02 17:20
i think all of their contracts end after the faceit major. ange1 said last year that he was signing for one more year with hr right after krakow. could fall in line with faceit? navi dont get their shit together, they could gnab bondik and ange1. then SS might just be waiting on woxic's contract to end, which i assume would be around the same time. perfect thing to look for in the next big shuffle?
2018-04-02 17:47
i should add that this would leave ISSA and Deadfox in HR. they could sign another year for those two and make a decent T2 out of them if they signed some other pros like maybe xist...

2018-04-02 13:52
You do realise that I'd favour 13 eu 1 asia, right?
2018-04-02 13:47
Every single major I have to remind people that they were always, ALWAYS meant to bring best teams from each region, not the best teams from the world. It's always been this way.
2018-04-02 13:13
It's the qualifier, 6 teams will go to minor not to major. Read.
2018-04-02 14:44
Never claimed anything else, "read". Asian teams are insanely inferior to European ones, hence the qualifier should be played on lan for all teams, no matter where their freakin' players were born. Wasted Minor sports all over the place.
2018-04-02 17:04
So where do these asian/australian team need to show off their skills/talents? Everyone keeps saying " it's a wasted spot for major ", In Dreamhack Event people say " it's a wasted spot " and so on. People did the same thing to CIS region telling that they aren't really good and need to be put together with EU region. Turns out wrong.
2018-04-02 17:17
Not a single cis team beat anyone else but other cis teams in a bo3 in the entirety of the last major. And Asian teams are far inferior even to cis teams. Basically all Asian teams are wasted spots 99% of the time, australian teams are comparable to t3 na teams, so better than asians, but still horrible, maybe 1 slot for the entire oceania/asian region would be appropriate, 6 for na/sa, rest for europe and cis (who could at least play the same qualifier, if they want to split it, but online qualifiers are bullshit anyway.)

2018-04-02 14:19

No problem :D As long as qualifier is on LAN Vp has a chance. In this year where so many teams in Europe can play good qualifying would be hell for Vp. If they ever fall below Major Qualifier I don't really see them going through online to Minor and beyond :/ They would truly need some kind of miracle.
