Lisbon to stage $50,000 Mercedes-Benz CS:GO CUP

Lisbon will host an international tournament called the Mercedes-Benz CS:GO CUP with $50,000 on offer, it has been announced.

The competition will take place on June 9-10 at Altice Arena as part of Moche XL ESPORTS, a large-scale event that will feature tournaments in multiple games.

Six teams will be taking part in the Mercedes-Benz CS:GO CUP, with four spots being filled through invites. These sides will be joined by the winner of the Mercedes-Benz Master League Portugal and by the team coming out of an Iberian qualifier that will run from May 12-20.

Four international teams will be invited to attend the event

According to the event organisers, the $50,000 prize pool is "the biggest for a tournament hosted on Portuguese soil", with the prize breakdown looking as follows:

1. $25,000
2. $15,000
3-4. $4,000
5-6. $1,000

The Iberian qualifying process will begin with two 128-team open qualifiers, on May 12-13. The top two teams from both qualifiers will then square off in a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket for the chance to compete in the main tournament.

it's because the event is in Portugal bro, we're slowly growing, is our first international event here, normal that the sponsors don't go so high. It's 100.000$, but half for cs:go and the others 50k$ for League of Legends, Fifa and clash royale. And tbh, we're very much strong in LOL and Fifa that in cs:go, but we've much more history and a very bigger community in cs:go.

Space Soldiers for sure will be one of the invited teams, we get close with them on the last international event here, with their presence. The other international, will be Fox new team, and the last two spots go for NIP and probably a brazilian line-up.

XL Party has some great people behind it but unless they sort out the schedule and streams i fear this will be a one off, if they can get over the issues of old there is no reason why this can't be the start of something big in terms of adding at least one XL Party event in Portugal to the international CSGO calendar, boa sorte.

This is nothing like a XL Party. The name is there but the whole project is literally different in this one. This is a single tournament with no LAN party whatsoever attached to it. Things have evolved quite a bit since the XL Party's days, thankfully. Hoping to see you back Yakk, cheers!

yeah, it's 4 international invited teams, the champion of the portuguese league and 2 online qualifiers, for only portuguese and Spanish teams, where 4 teams go to a closed qualifier to qualify just one team. The event is a 6 teams event only.

yeah, Space Soldiers and Fox new team will be for sure, 2 of the invited teams. The others two, maybe NIP, because of their merchandising in Spain, what comes in a good indirect way and well receive for sure in Portugal, by a lot of NIP fans here too. And for last, they'll probably try a brazilian team, like SK, NTC or Luminosity, one of the top 3, for sure.
