Space Soldiers win GG:Origin; secure IEM Sydney spot

Space Soldiers booked their spot at IEM Sydney 2018 after winning GG:Origin over Heroic, 2-0 (16-8 on Cobblestone, 16-14 on Overpass).

The clash began on Cobblestone, Space Soldiers' map pick, with Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli's men getting off to a flying start as Terrorists, winning eight rounds in a row without much response from their opponents.

It was only then that Heroic managed to get their first round on the board, which they followed up with another, but Space Soldiers showed great composure and secured a 12-3 half-time lead.

In the second half, Heroic came from the break looking more lively, bagging a five-round winning streak to reduce the deficit to just four rounds. From that moment, however, Space Soldiers closed out the map without losing any more rounds.

Calyx led the way for Space Soldiers with a 1.45 rating

On Overpass, Heroic's map pick, the Danes started it off with a successful CT pistol to grab a quick 3-0 lead. Space Soldiers responded with a triumphant gun round, and, despite losing the following round, managed to equalize things off at 4-4.

The Danish side tightened up their defence from there, losing only two more rounds to switch sides with a 9-6 lead. Despite Heroic then picking up their third pistol round of the series, Space Soldiers countered them well in a force-buy and went on to level up the score at 10-10.

And even though Heroic replied with three rounds of their own, Space Soldiers would not let the game slip away, and finished things off in the 30th round to assure themselves of a spot at IEM Sydney 2018.
