Astralis defeat FaZe to advance to semis in France

Astralis have beaten FaZe 2-0 in the quarter-finals at DreamHack Masters Marseille to become the third semi-finalists (16-11 on Mirage and 16-6 on Nuke).

The quarter-final best-of-three series featuring Astralis and FaZe kicked off on Mirage where Finn "karrigan" Andersen's squad started on the CT-side. FaZe picked up the pistol round victory by defusing the bomb. After losing the first two rounds, Astralis had an early weapon round and won it after Nicolai "device" Reedtz and Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's opening kills.

The Danes secured two more rounds to take the lead, making it 3-2, but FaZe tied things up with a retake (3-3).FaZe were leading 5-3 when Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth and gla1ve, respectively, won 1vs2 clutches, tying the game at 5-5. Astralis continued their streak until the last round of the half and led 9-6 at halftime.

Astralis were victorious

Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovács stepped up in the second half pistol round and got a triple kill in a post-plant situation to give FaZe their first T-side round. Astralis' response was swift as the Danes won the following round cleanly with Peter "dupreeh" Rasmussen's triple kill and extended their lead to 10-7.

FaZe fought back and tied the game at 10-10 with three round wins but Astralis' rigid defense prospered, resulting in five round wins in a row for the Danes (15-10). device & company closed out the map with a 16-11 scoreline.

FaZe have finished 5-8th

Nuke was the second map in the series and it kicked off with Astralis on the CT-side. dupreeh & Xyp9x both got double-kills in the pistol round to win it but Håvard "rain" Nygaard's triple kill in the following round made it 1-1. Later on, FaZe took a 3-1 lead and had a 3vs2 advantage in a post-plant situation in the fifth round but Xyp9x & device were able to turn it around to trail 3-2.

After losing the following round to trail 4-2, Astralis won eight of the last nine rounds in the half to lead 10-5 at halftime. Astralis had a thunderous start to the second half and won the first three rounds. They were in a disadvantageous position in the first weapon round but Xyp9x bailed them out to make it 14-5. The Danes won the map 16-5 and the series 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals at DreamHack Masters Marseille.

When Astralis players didn't trust karrigan anymore, they played like bots, they either didn't try or they just threw intentionally (who knows), now NiKo does the same and rain too (enjoy their sucky-sucky on mirage especially; tbh your AWPer should have more impact too, look at device and then on GuardiaN), they're supposed to be heavy-hitters but die too often, making few or no impactful kills. Let's light a candle for karrigan, may be North will pick him, MSL is horrible anyway, or OpTic... But it's not his fault that his best players sucked. Taking into account that NiP actually improved after kicking xizt, you don't want him to call, and if you make NiKo call - you may keep karrigan to play bitch roles, then olofmeister should become a star player, if olofmeister isn't coming back - FaZe will need to buy a heavy-hitting rifler, may be shox? The best IGL options: FalleN, gla1ve (sadly both impossible). Or convince shox of coming back to calling, if he doesn't want to micromanage his mates then he's a weirdo, he should do that, it worked in G2. But you know what, all those stars may not want to be micromanaged (read told what to do step-by-step), I can see NiKo getting mad at shox for constant control, like "dude why do you tell me how to act every minute, do you think I don't know how to play CS?". It's sad to see so many teams struggling: G2, SK, Liquid, mousesports, Cloud9, FaZe. I feel like it's not about higher competitiveness, it's about top teams being inconsistent for a reason. Astralis to lose to Gambit again? :-]

2018-04-22 07:54
When Shox played for G2 as an IGL without being questioned by NBK, Apex and KennyS on every fucking call he made, they actually went somewhere with it. No overpaid shitlineup, just his closest csgo teammates.. Shox, bodyy, scream, rpk and smithzz were ranked 2nd best team in the world by HLTV. When Shox played for G2 with Scream, Smithzz, Rpk and Scream, he was respected by everyone. They made it hard vs LG(SK-Gaming) at 2 lans, where they won one of them. Which was in LG/SK's primetime (There is a fucking reason SK Gaming bought them) LG/SK's period where they were known as to be completely untouchable. People thought he cheated: youtube.com/watch?v=cL9aBrcB6vg 2nd ESL Pro League Finales 1st ECS Season Finales They were the second best csgo team in the world. Not only because he is an insanely good player, but also because he is an insanely good leader. A speech Shox made.. Which is the best word ive ever heard an igl tell his team before a game: youtube.com/watch?v=SaYB-qyN1ys Shox is insanely smart: youtube.com/watch?v=ZAlxwnK-CzU Shox is insanely good: youtube.com/watch?v=cgo16wA_nhA 2nd ESL Pro League Finales 1st ECS Season Finales Shox has lead lineups with new players, outburned players, new talents etc.. And pushed results with them.. Any french player that has stood by Shox will confirm this. Shox is not a fucking backstabber, look how long he stayed with SmithZz just because of loyalty. Don't know how people can talk shit about Shox and blame him for the lack of results in G2, i mean... EnvyUs was pretty fucking shit, and this new lineup G2 has just lost to the new EnvyUs lineup and went out in groups at Dreamhack Masters Marseille? So lets be clear about one thing. France need Shox in a team if they want it to be one of the best, maybe not as a leader, but like many else he is not blind to say that he would love someone else to do it instead.. He even suggested Ex6stenz. Which i would love to see personally. But it is NOT because of Shox that G2 or any IGL who has played with the french diva'core's fault that they cant hit results. Cause it keeps happening consistently with or without Shox. And we all know K1o wasnt the problem.. But oh well lets keep on pointing fingers =)

I actually really agree with what you’re saying rn, but shox as IGL is a bad idea.
2018-04-21 19:19
I know, shox said that at the tournaments they won he micromanaged the others but he didn't like it, so he decided to team up with Ex6TenZ. But if somebody can convince him of coming back to micromanaging the others - he might be a successful IGL. There's one more "but" - some FaZe players may get mad at being "micromanaged", so not gonna happen. And who else can succeed at leading FaZe? There's no good IGL available, so FaZe can only try NiKo or [fuck it] xizt, I doubt it would work out. Poor FaZe...

Idk really, what if they try fresh talent?
2018-04-21 19:44
1) A fresh talent should show something, like Golden showed something that fnatic's management/coach liked so they tried him. And you know what, I really doubt young boys would spend enough time learning how at least the top10 teams play every round and - it's more important - why they do specific things and how they make it work. That guy should spend tens of hours just watching demos, while young guys want to have fun, hang out with friends, grab some pussy etc. (everybody wants that but when you're young you have no discipline so you do all of that without thinking of your future), let's be honest - watching demos is boring. But even if a guy want to do all of that - he should have good analytical skills to really understand what's happening and why, and he also should have enough creativity to use that knowledge to make up strats and counter-strat his opponents. It's a lot of work and he has to have specific "intelligence qualities", that's why some people can do it and the majority only run'n'gun and can't make up anything but basic simplistic pug-style strats. 2) Those "stars" may not listen to a schoolboy that tells them what to do :-) It's all about trust, they most likely won't trust a really young guy even if he turns out being a mastermind. They most likely will think of him "ok well he's just a kid". That's why he should at least succeed with some other team to get a good reputation.

If NiKo get 0.57 FaZe won't ever stand a chance. If he don't perform, FaZe won't perform as well.

karrigan’s calls were bad and he failed to set up his star players, it’s not NiKo’s fault.

I jist saw the game. Xizt died alot in bad situations, and astralis took the site. No wonder they won. And i tought he would be a good replacement. Worst move ever
