Liquid confirmed to attend ESL One Cologne

Striker
May 8th, 2018 18:24

Liquid have been confirmed by the organizers as the eighth invited team to ESL One Cologne.

Liquid are the eighth directly invited team to the $300,000 tournament, joining the likes of Astralis, FaZe, and fnatic in Cologne.

At last year's edition of the tournament, the core of the North American squad placed in the top eight after securing a 3-0 record in the Swiss stage, before falling to FaZe in the quarter-finals.

Liquid will attend four large-scale tournaments over the next two months

Liquid, who recently swapped Lucas "steel" Lopes for Epitacio "TACO" de Melo, have thus far disappointed to put up satisfying results with the new lineup, finishing 9th-12th in their debut at DreamHack Masters Marseille.

However, they will have plenty of chances to redeem themselves, as they are now confirmed to attend four large-scale tournaments during the next two months, including ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals, StarSeries i-League Season 5, and ESL One stops in Belo Horizonte and Cologne.

With Liquid's addition, the team list for ESL One Cologne, taking place on July 3-8, looks as follows:

Brazil SK United States Cloud9
Sweden fnatic  Europe FaZe
France G2 Denmark Astralis
Germany BIG North America Liquid

Four more directly invited teams are left to be revealed by the organizers, with the remaining four coming from qualifiers in Europe (2 slots), North America, and Asia, which will run throughout May.

Well, i think they should still have been invited as I don't think it will mess with the qualification for the major and they have a lot of history in cologne while being in good form recently
2018-05-08 18:29
dude, you remember last time when NiP win IEM oakland? after that they trashed on next event and not qualify again. Their online form means nothing

The two tournaments they have played with this roster they make the quarter finals, both times going to a close third map. They came second in EPL (where they recently 2-0'd mouz, astralis and faze) and are on the road to qualify for ECS. And the say that online means NOTHING AT ALL it retarded.
2018-05-08 18:33
Yeah i saw their games online but can NiP show this results on LAN vs Astralis/FaZe? right now i think no online = online

United Kingdom Auxilium61
They beat mouz, north and G2 in BO3's at lan when all 3 were looking like top 5-10 teams in the world. Nip beat SK in a BO1 and lost to Liquid in a BO3 where NiP looked like the most dominant team but threw the last map due to their inexperience as a team (first lan). The only other team they lost a BO3 to was fnatic who had just won katowice and wesg and the match was still close (NiP looking more dominant imo). For a team that has been around for around 3 months now with a new igl, they look like a top team again.
2018-05-08 18:40
win vs SK doesnt matter anything SK lost to TYLUL and GrayHound Mouz - never beat NiP on LAN since 2012 and with this roster also this wins - no change anything for NiP for them need beat Astralis many times and FaZe and shut up their haters

Is this a joke? Before people start comparing this to inviting extra APAC teams to Sydney, Cologne is already an established, amazing event, which brings people from all over the world to enjoy TOP TIER Counter-Strike. It is arguably the only event, that can bring 10,000+ people without it being a Valve Major. There are already organised groups of Polish, French, etc. fans coming every year. YOU DON'T NEED A NA TEAM AT ALL. Especially not one as average as LIQUID. Just cheer for CLOUD9.
2018-05-08 20:46
