London to stage all Minors leading to FACEIT Major
FACEIT has revealed that all Minors leading to the next Major will be held at the Twickenham Stadium, in London.
This will be the first time in the history of the Minors that these regional competitions will take place under one roof, with the event circuit beginning with the Americas Minor, from July 7-11, and concluding with the Europe Minor, from July 19-22.
Owned by England's rugby governing body, the Twickenham Stadium will offer 24-hour practice rooms, two indoor stages, a gym and an executive chef to all the 32 attending teams (eight per Minor).
Hosting all Minors at the same venue, FACEIT claims, will give the competing sides "the opportunity to learn from teams from different regions", while it "also ensures no team that gets to the Minor will face visa issues for the Major itself". And with only two months between the Minors and the Major, FACEIT believes that this will lead to "fewer roster changes and more consistency between competitions so teams can focus on the game."
"By hosting each stage of the tournament at Twickenham Stadium we’re hoping to bring new life to the Minors," said FACEIT Chief Business Officer Michele Attisani.
"The Major should be a celebration of all things CS:GO, we want to bring teams together for the first time and make sure teams of all levels feel welcome and feel the Major experience."
Each Minor will have $50,000 up for grabs in addition to two qualifying spots for the $1 million FACEIT Major, which will culminate with a live event at the 10,000-seater SSE Arena, also in London.
The open qualifying process for the Minors will begin on May 14 and run until June 17, as announced last month, with registration available on the FACEIT Major's website. Europe, North America and the CIS will all have closed qualifiers, while in Asia the winners of the open qualifiers will go straight to the Minor, joining two invited sides.
