BIG and eUnited through to playoffs after first day of Global Challenge
The first day has come to an end with BIG and eUnited through to the playoffs while Swole Patrol is the first team out after losses to Spirit and Order.
After the ESL Pro League relegation in Leicester concluded yesterday, it is now time for the ESEA MDL Season 27 Global Challenge LAN, where teams from leagues across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas are facing off with a prize pool of $50,000 on the line.
The day kicked off with BIG and Spirit winning their Group A openers against ORDER and Swole Patrol, respectively, followed by eUnited and Torqued beating Yeah and Windigo in the Group B opening matches.
With a 16-1 thrashing of Spirit on Overpass, BIG then became the first Group A team to make it to the playoffs. The German squad, playing with Nikola "LEGIJA" Ninić as it did during the ESL Pro League relegation matches due to the roster lock, was soon followed by eUnited who took a playoff spot in very different fashion, winning against Joshua "steel" Nissan’s Torqued in the thirtieth round, 16-14, on Nuke.
The last match of the day pitted ORDER and Swole Patrol in the Group A elimination match, which kicked off with the Australian team taking Nuke, Swole Patrol’s pick, 19-16, despite the American team bringing it back from a 9-15 deficit all the way to overtime.
ORDER then ensured their survival in the tournament and knocked their North American rivals out on the second map of the match, Cache, by an ample 16-3, therefore making Samuel "SileNt" Portillo and his team the first out of the competition in Leicester.
