Shaoxing to host Eastide 2018, with $225,000 prize pool

The Chinese city of Shaoxing will host an international CS:GO tournament in the summer with $225,000 on the line, the event's organisers have told HLTV.org.

Running from August 15-19 at an indoor arena inside the Shaoxing Olympic Sports Center, in the Chinese province of Zhejiang, Eastide 2018 will feature eight teams, who will battle it out in a double-elimination bracket that will culminate with a best-of-five grand final.

HLTV.org knows that this will be the first of a series of international events that are being planned by Chinese company Zhejiang Rui Yue Cultural Exchange Co.,Ltd. together with South-Korea based Eastide Company with the goal of bringing "new cultural experiences" by combining esports with other forms of entertainment.

The Shaoxing Olympic Sports Center will stage Eastide 2018

Five of the eight tournament spots will be filled through invites, which will mainly be given out to European and North American teams. Three more teams will come from closed qualifiers, with Europe having two qualifying spots and Asia just one.

More details about Eastide 2018, including prize money breakdown, the first invites and the closed qualifier teams, are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks.

CS will never be game for China and big prizepools arent the answer. China just doesnt like FPS games And also, they always invite tier 2/3 teams

Yea, there is only a small amount of csgo fans in china, the majority of esports are moba like Dota2 and LOL. So no matter how big is the prize pool, csgo won't have a good environment in this country

Great that Chinese tournaments are being hosted! I also hope there will be chinese spectators in the stadium. Hope that a bunch of great orgs will be invited! Btw, to Chinese CS:GO players, how is Perfect World CS:GO going? Is it working well? Are there many chinese players?

Strange to only give 1 qualifier spot to their own region and 2 for Europe which will likely be filled by tier 2 teams whom are hardly better than the Asian teams.

But the matches will be played in the Asian time zone. So just like IEM Sydney did, it makes sense to invite more local teams. Unless the Chinese don't care about their local teams and rather watch more top tier CS which is understandable. But like I said, I doubt many top teams will go here. The spots will be filled by teams like Kinguin, AGO, maybe Heroic or NV and Chinese teams are probably pretty close to their level.
