Cloud9 confirmed at BLAST Pro Series; Liquid replace them at ESL One NY

Cloud9 pulled out of ESL One New York in order to attend BLAST Pro Series Istanbul on the newly announced dates. To replace them in New York, ESL invited another top North American team - Liquid.

Cloud9 had originally been announced for BLAST Pro Series Istanbul back in March, but the recent date change, that saw the tournament moved to September to a date overlapping with ESL One New York, put their attendance in question.

Despite already being announced for ESL One New York, Cloud9 decided to pull out of the tournament in order to attend BLAST Pro Series Istanbul. That decision will cost them a portion of their prize money at the next ESL One event they play, ESL stated in their official announcement:

"Cloud9 were directly invited to compete at ESL One New York on March 27th. The team has accepted our invitation on April 1st and was announced to the fans as one of the attending teams. Since then, Cloud9 have decided to withdraw from the tournament to pursue other challenges, travelling to Istanbul instead."

"Due to their cancellation after accepting the invite, Cloud9 will be penalized with a prize money deduction during their next ESL One event. As per our rules, prize money deductions due to penalty points will be redistributed to all other attending teams based on their final ranking."

tarik and co. will be attending the tournament in Turkey after all

Replacing Cloud9 at ESL One New York will be Liquid, who are seemingly trending upward with Epitacio "TACO" de Melo, finishing second to Astralis at the recent ESL Pro League Season 7 Finals.

With this, five of the six attending teams are known for BLAST Pro Series Istanbul:

Denmark Astralis Sweden NiP
Turkey Space Soldiers Poland Virtus.pro
United States Cloud9 Other Invite

On the other hand, only two of eight teams that will attend ESL One New York 2018 have been announced so far, FaZe and Liquid.

Atm id say LIQUID are definitely capable of beating Faze in a series. Also These events are all the way in September. The top teams might be a bit different by then.

because they'll just dissapoint again like in dallas, whereas liquid made the grand final and put up a good fight and took the only map astralis lost in the entire tournament smart decision, they know liquid can be relied on to do something, so instead of trying to do something themselves they drop to a lower tier tournament to get more experience with FNS

To be honest liquid was probably getting an Invite anyway. ESL probably wants to NA teams but the only two worth invites are C9 and Liquid. Shame they dropped out after many fans bought tickets to see them play again
