qikert: "We are giving Jame more freedom"

We spoke with Alexey "qikert" Golubev following his team's win over Gambit and heard about AVANGAR's recent player and role changes.

AVANGAR managed to add on to their online win over Gambit today by beating their countrymen on LAN, taking a 2-0 victory.

qikert enjoyed IGLing in Jame's absence so he stuck to the role

The first map, Mirage, was a straightforward one, while Overpass was a contested affair that was edged out by the underdogs in the end. Shortly after the game ended, we interviewed qikert to hear more about AVANGAR.

I'll start with the player change, you had Jame replaced by ramz1k, that lasted for a month and now he is back in the team. Can you tell me a bit about that, why it happened?

We put Jame on the bench because he had personal issues which he had to fix. After he fixed them we just brought him back. It was a temporary change, ramz1k was a stand-in for a month.

Now that Jame is back and playing well, how has that impacted the team? Is the motivation going up?

We just made small changes, Jame used to be our in-game leader, but after these changes, when we added ramz1k, I became the in-game leader. I really liked it and we decided to keep it as it is. Now we are giving Jame more freedom, that's why he is impactful now. I mean, he was impactful before as well, but still...

What's your style of in-game leading, what's the biggest difference between AVANGAR now and before?

Maybe before we were more tactical, we had more structure in our CS, but now we have more individual and LAN CS. You take over the map and go as five, it's LAN CS.

Online you have been playing pretty decent, but what was the preparation like coming into this event particularly?

Before this event we had many officials, we had 15 officials and won all 15. Then we went to LAN where we faced Virtus.pro, won against them 2-0, and then we played against SK where we took the first map but then lost the three other maps - which ended our win streak. So our preparation was just to play official games and LAN.

Let's move on to the Gambit game, you've played them online in the qualifier for this as well. You eliminated them from the tournament, but in the end, they got invited, which is kind of weird, but did that match play a big factor into how you felt into coming into this match?

In the first map we had a really good start, 10-0 I guess, that gave us a lot of confidence, a lot of bravery, that's what made our game. We had a good start and we didn't feel any pressure anyway.

The second map was back and forth, what do you think, were there some key calls, rounds, things that happened that broke the match into your favor?

On Overpass, buster was getting a lot of entry frags on the B site, that gave us the ability to read the game a lot. So that's how we got our CT side. Sometimes something still went wrong, because we haven't been paying a lot of Overpass, especially on LAN.

Does beating Gambit, considering they are majorly from Kazakhstan and you are too, add some additional pleasure to this win?

Sure it does, we are really happy that we won against them on LAN.

You got your first win, what do you expect moving forward in the tournament?

I expect to go 3-0, at least get three wins and go to the playoffs.
