North take down NRG; VP beat Gambit at StarSeries

On the second day of StarSeries i-League Season 5, North and Virtus.pro both make it to 1-1 in the group stage by beating NRG and Gambit respectively.

The first map between NRG and North was Nuke, where the North Americans secured the pistol round as terrorists after a quick hit inside. Damian "daps" Steele and his men won the ensuing anti ecos, but North returned fire in the first gun round.

Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen showed the way with impressive individual play on the defense to push North ahead in the half, ending it with a 11-4 lead. The Danes carried their good form over to the terrorist side, winning the pistol round with relative ease. With the following anti ecos in the bag, North quickly tied everything up with a 16-5 map win.

North are now 1-1 in the group stages in Kiev

Next up was Overpass, where NRG won the first pistol round after a great setup on the B site as CTs. They only managed one anti eco, though, before North put themselves on the board.

What followed was a period of trading rounds before NRG started to look comfortable on the CT side, pulling ahead of the Danes and eventually ending the half 10-5.

Jacob "FugLy" Medina and Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte locked down the pistol round after the switch and were vital in NRG's following domination in the second half. The North Americans had no trouble shutting down North and won Overpass 16-6.

North took the first pistol round and the following anti ecos as terrorists in the decider, Mirage. NRG won their first gun round, but the Danes weathered the storm and pulled ahead to a 7-1 lead. daps and his men managed three more rounds before North took charge again to end the half 11-4.

Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså killed three in the pistol round after the switch to close it out. NRG attempted the long crawl back into the match with four rounds in a row, but North finally shut them down to win Mirage 16-8 and the series 2-1.

In the other match of the first round of the day, Gambit took on Virtus.pro.

The two teams started out on Mirage, with Virtus.pro taking the pistol and the two following rounds with ease. The Poles managed two more before Gambit started firing back, the half slowly developing into a close fight for control.

No team was able to pull ahead before the half, which ended as close as possible at 8-7 in the favour of Mihail "Dosia" Stolyarov’s troops.

Virtus.pro were the victors of the pistol round after the switch, also taking the following two anti ecos. From there, Gambit couldn’t stop the Poles from pulling ahead, Virtus.pro quickly reaching map point at 15-10. Dosia and the rest of Gambit slowly fought their way back, though, eventually securing overtime.

The extra rounds saw the match run close again, but Virtus.pro finally put the lid on it, winning Mirage 19-17.

Virtus.Pro bested Gambit in two close maps

Next up was Train, where Gambit came out on top in the first pistol rounds as CTs. Virtus.pro answered right away, though, with an eco round win. After a lengthy technical pause, the two teams traded rounds until Gambit pulled ahead slightly to end the half with a 9-6 lead.

Virtus.pro won the pistol round after the switch and secured the following two anti ecos to even out the score. Once Gambit had guns, though, they found their footing and took control of things, pulling ahead to a 13-9 lead. Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski then had a few clutch rounds to lead his team back to even out the score at 13-13.

The Polish veteran continued his good form in the following last rounds before Virtus.pro could finally seal the deal, winning Train 16-13 and the series 2-0.

Although mir is a good aimer with really good 1-st bullet accuracy, Gambit actually needs an IGL, not another aimer. While Na`Vi needs a good aimer instead of Edward, because Edward does all those brainless pushes, he doesn't play passive, so he does need good aim which he doesn't have at all. -Edward +mir NRG are onliners :-P

Aizy at the top of the scoreboard? WHAT IS GOING ON, WTF!?!? Also, Gambit's fault for not having an IGL. Well played by VP though, they did play like a team in this series.
