NRG breeze past Renegades, bag quarter-finals spot
The North American side started on the CT side and got off to a good start after Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov turned the first pistol around with a 1v2 clutch. The two sides then exchanged forcebuy victories, with NRG eventually coming out on top to bag a 4-1 lead. Renegades had a hard time penetrating the defense from there on, as only a couple of B attacks went in their favor while Damian "daps" Steele's team rallied to an 11-4 half.
Even though the Australian side began putting up a good defense of their own, winning the pistol round and two of the first three gunrounds, it wasn't enough in the end. Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte's quad-kill and a 1v2 clutch gave NRG their 14th round, at which point the two teams started trading rounds until it was 16-11 when the North American squad prevailed in a half-buy scenario.
Moving on to their opponents' pick, Renegades clinched the pistol round after defending the B bombsite, courtesy of Aaron "AZR" Ward's quad-kill, though it was NRG who claimed a 3-1 lead after securing the next-round forcebuy.
Early pickoffs in the first full buys allowed Noah "Nifty" Francis's side to level the score, but the tide turned again when they opted for more passive setups, as NRG reached their sixth round. The last six were exchanged evenly between the two, as CeRq & co. switched over to the CT side at a comfortable 9-6.
With a pistol round in the bag, NRG cruised to a 12-6 lead and only lost the first gunround before securing the last four rounds in a clean fashion to finish the series 16-7, 2-0.
