Space Soldiers beat OpTic; through to semi-finals in Austin

Space Soldiers have assured themselves of a top-four finish at DreamHack Open Austin after defeating OpTic in a three-map series.

The final group match in Austin, featuring two European teams, began on Mirage, where OpTic came out the livelier of the two sides as they won the pistol round and the following anti-ecos to pick up a 3-0 lead.

As soon as Space Soldiers bought up, the swing of the game changed, though, as the Turkish side won six of the following seven rounds, leaving OpTic's players strapped for cash. The Danes would not take long to regain control of the game, however, and bagged the final five rounds of the half to take a 9-6 lead.

The second half saw more of the same as OpTic took the opening three rounds to get closer to the map victory. A 1v2 clutch from Ahmet "paz" Karahoca in the first gun round earned Space Soldiers their first round of the half, but the Danes would reply immediately, resetting their opponents and setting themselves up for a comprehensive 16-7 success.

Inferno, the second map of the series, began with OpTic winning a 2v4 post-plant on the A site. Space Soldiers' players looked incredibly off the pace and only managed to respond six rounds into the map, when Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş took matters into his own hands and picked up three kills while pushing down banana.

XANTARES inspired Space Soldiers to beat OpTic

That individual action turned the game on its head and breathed new life into Space Soldiers' players, propelling the Turkish team into a six-round streak. The rest of the half was highly contested as rounds went back and forth, with Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli's side taking a close 8-7 lead into the break.

Now on the Terrorist side, Space Soldiers ran all over the OpTic defence. The rounds that the Danish team edged out were few and far between, and, with their economy permanently in a dire state, they were unable to prevent the Turkish side from locking down the map.

The decider map, Train, saw OpTic take the lead after winning the pistol round and an anti-eco round. A third-round buy from Space Soldiers paid dividends and marked the beginning of a phenomenal run from the Turkish side. OpTic were constantly caught off-guard by the quick Terrorists and kept losing the aim duels, with the half ending with a one-sided 12-3 scoreline.

MAJ3R came up huge in the second half and tapped down three players in the pistol round to kick Space Soldiers further into the lead before pulling off a quad-kill in a flank in the next round. OpTic fought bravely to get back into the game, but two round wins on very weak buys eventually put the Turkish side through to the semi-finals, in which they will face Heroic.

"The final group match in Austin, featuring two European teams" "featuring two European teams" "European" >Turkey >European omegalul wtf pick one please
2018-06-03 08:28
So you say Turkey isnt European? Back to school kid
2018-06-03 14:17
hellespont has always been bridge between europe and asia, culturally, historically and geographically seperated. 1/20 of turkey being in balkans =/= european country. When russia owned territory in alaska, was russia considered a north american country?
2018-06-03 15:04
When i fly to turkey, i’m never leaving europe, so stop talking history and start liveing in this century please. If i go by your logic i can say Sweden = Africa (Pangea).
2018-06-03 18:22
wtf lol are you a fucking retard? im talking human history not geographic history. Turkey has never ever been considered european ethnically, culturally, or geographically in HUMAN history. idk why youre talking about deep time lol wtf. "The capital of Turkey, Ankara is in Asia. Likewise, most of its land is as well. 95% of Turkey is located on the continent of Asia. Physically speaking it is Eurasian with a larger population living in Asia." just because turkey has a tiny part in europe doesnt mean it is a european nation and the people living there are european lol. was great britain an african country because of their colonies in africa?
2018-06-04 01:34
So Cyprus which is only located geographically in Asia isnt european? :O Strange, they go by the European union rules... Why is Turkey qualifying in the European qualification in football? Get your facts straight kid
2018-06-04 18:55
It's a combination of several things, not just any one of the things I've said. That's why some people consider Georgia to be European, but not turkey, because of the physical AND human geography. Australia was in Eurovision this year, they must be European by that fucking logic lol, don't bring football into this. I don't know much about Cyprus, but it is culturally different from turkey, the southern half at least. Are you sure both sides follow EU laws, not just southern zone?
2018-06-05 01:07
About 15m Turkish people live in Istanbul, so yes Turkey can be considered european.
