AGO outlast Red Reserve in overtime, OpTic beat Gambit

In the second half of DreamHack Open Summer's opening round, AGO came out on top of a double-overtime battle against Red Reserve (22-20 on Train), while OpTic defeated Gambit (16-7 on Mirage).

Group A's second opening match saw AGO take on the ex-GODSENT team now representing Red Reserve on Train. The Polish side got off to a good start as CT, but once the Swedes equalized things, the two sides went back and forth, with AGO winning a couple of key forcebuys along the way.

TOAO's clutches in overtime made the difference

It was 7-8 when the sides switched. Michał "snatchie" Rudzki & co. retook their lead with a pistol round and went on to break the defense in the second gunround to reach 14 rounds. They couldn't close it out in regulation, however, as Red Reserve clinched six out of the last seven rounds to force overtime.

The first set didn't decide the winner, as each team put in two rounds as Terrorists, but the second saw AGO string three together on the offense on the back of great play from Mateusz "TOAO" Zawistowski, who clutched a 1v2 and turned a 2v5 around with an ace, to secure their place in the winners' match.

In Group B's second match of the opening round, OpTic battled Gambit on Mirage, where the Danish squad converted a pistol round win into a 5-0 lead as Terrorists. Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's five kills over the next two rounds on A helped Gambit get on the board, but Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer's men remained in control, responding with the next three.

Gambit were able to secure three more rounds before the half ended at 5-10, but their hopes of a comeback started dwindling away after René "cajunb" Borg gave his team the pistol round with a 1v3.

cajunb's 1v3 in the second pistol round made things easier for OpTic

Surviving the following anti-ecos as well as the first gunround, OpTic powered to a 14-5 lead. Gambit replied with two in a row, but they were too far behind to allow for any mistakes to happen, as cajunb and Snappi combined for five kills in a 3v5 to clinch match point and shortly after advance to Group B's winners' match at 16-7.
