EnVyUs to CS:GO Asia Championships semis over Heroic
Envy have secured their place in the CS:GO Asia Championships semi-finals after beating Heroic 2-1 (16-9 on Inferno, 12-16 on Mirage, and 16-13 on Train).
Envy and Heroic squared off in the second quarter-final at the CS:GO Asia Championships. The series started on Inferno with the T-sided Envy picking up the pistol round and the anti-ecos (3-0).
Heroic reacted in the first weapon round with Andreas "MODDII" Fridh and Ruben "RUBINO" Villarroel's double kills but throughout the half they could only get two consecutive rounds which led to their trailing 9-6 at halftime.
Envy started their CT-side with a 3vs3 retake to win their tenth round. After Envy secured one more round, Heroic hit back with an early buy to grab their seventh. However, they were reset immediately as they couldn’t initiate a streak (12-7). Envy went on to close out the map 16-9.
Mirage, which was the second map, saw Fabien "kioShiMa" Fiey and Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom clutch a 2vs4 in the pistol round to give the T-sided Envy the 1-0 lead. ScreaM and kioShiMa's quad-kills in the second and third rounds, respectively, made it 3-0.
kioShiMa clutched a 1vs2 in the first gun round, denying Heroic's defuse attempt and extending Envy' lead to 4-0. Heroic responded to the French team's early 5-0 lead by taking five of their own and tying the game.
The five-round streak trend stayed alive as Envy claimed the last five of the half to lead 10-5 at halftime, largely thanks to kioShiMa and ScreaM who got 20 and 17 kills, respectively.
The Frenchmen took the second half pistol round but lost the second round (11-6). Then kioShiMa got an incredible Deagle quad kill to extend the French team's lead to 12-6. However, Heroic then went on a 10-round streak to come back and win the map 16-12.
Envy' dominance in pistol rounds continued on Train where they started on the CT-side to win the first three rounds. Heroic managed to catch up to Envy, tying the game at 6-6 after being down 6-2. ScreaM got a crucial quad kill in the 13th round, three of which were with Deagle (7-6). Envy finished the half with a 9-6 lead.
Although the French side took the second half pistol round, Heroic responded in the following round with USPs as they turned around a 3vs5 with Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen's triple kill and MODDII's 1vs1 clutch. Christophe "SIXER" Xia & company responded swiftly as ScreaM and kioShiMa took the team's 12th round with their entry kills (12-7).
Heroic secured four rounds in a row in each of which they lost two or less players, helping them establish a strong economy on the CT-side (12-11). RUBINO & co. tied the game with a retake but Envy recovered the lead in the following round (13-12).
niko's 1vs2 clutch tied the game once again, this time at 13-13. Envy closed out the map 16-13 and won the series 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals at CS:GO Asia Championships 2018.
