x-kom win Good Game League 2018
The first day of competition at the LAN in Poznan, Poland saw the group stage action being played out, with groups A-C going according to plan with the international teams reigning supreme over the Polish invite and local qualifier squads, and Valiance, ALTERNATE aTTaX and Windigo grabbing spots in the semi-final.
The German-Danish side started off on the right foot on Overpass thanks to Nils "k1to" Gruhne's quad kill on the T-side pistol, which ALTERNATE aTTaX followed up on to make the score 3-0. x-kom got a round on the board in the first buy, but a loss in the followup was a tough hit to their economy.
ALTERNATE aTTaX built on that, with k1to leading in the fragging department, pummelling the Poles and grabbing a 13-1 lead. In the last round of the half, x-kom went for a double-sniper setup and tried to hold aggressive map control, but they were picked apart once again and Nicolai "HUNDEN" Petersen's squad finished the T half 14-1 up.
After the switch, Stefan "stfN" Seier clutched the 1v2 to put his team on map point before Daniel "STOMP" Płomiński got a 3K to keep his team alive. x-kom was able to get up to six rounds, but that's where the comeback stopped and ALTERNATE aTTaX secured their map pick.
On Mirage, Patryk "Patitek" Fabrowski and Krzysiek "Goofy" Gorski turned around a 2v4 in the first rifle round to recover from the pistol round loss and allow x-kom to grab a 3-2 lead as Terrorists. However, the Poles fumbled against just pistols which saw ALTERNATE aTTaX take back the lead and establish a strong economy.
x-kom got their fourth round on the board with a classic A execute, but clutches from stfN and HUNDEN saw ALTERNATE aTTaX finish the first half strongly, 10-5. The German-Danish squad extended their lead to a very dangerous 13-5 by winning the pistol and cleaning up the anti-ecos, but x-kom didn't falter, and with Goofy's fragging on point, strung together seven rounds (13-12).
In the ensuing round, ALTERNATE aTTaX's slow default was picked apart, with the close-ramp setup paying off for the Poles. As it seemed like x-kom had tied Mirage up, ALTERNATE aTTaX broke into the B site with pistol-armor buys twice, making the score 15-15 and forcing overtime. Krzysztof "stark" Lewandrowski and co. still managed to keep it together in the added rounds and complete their comeback on Mirage, 19-16.
ALTERNATE aTTaX started Train furiously, recovering from the loss on Mirage and running up an 8-1 lead. Goofy got three kills in the following round, starting x-kom's streak. The Poles finished the half with seven rounds, bouncing back from the bad start, and went on to grab five consecutive rounds with the rifles in the second half (12-10).
HUNDEN's quad kill then stopped the onslaught and his team tied a couple of rounds together. The score was tied at 13-13 when Karol "tecek" Kapczyński and stark won a 2v4 which gave them the control of the game and broke ALTERNATE aTTaX's economy. x-kom didn't let go from that point and closed out the map 16-14.
