Vega Squadron come back to win opener against Spirit
Vega Squadron were able to break Spirit's defenses in the second half of their opening match in London to turn a 3-12 deficit into a 16-14 victory on Mirage.
The Russian derby between Vega Squadron and Spirit kicked off with the latter taking the early lead after winning a clean pistol round. Vadim "DavCost" Vasilyev & co. kept the lead after winning the first gun round, and made it all the way to 5-0. Dmitriy "jR" Chervak then got the opening frag with the AWP on A as Igor "crush" Shevchenko and Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov followed it up to get Vega Squadron on the board for the first time. Another solid hold by Vega Squadron, particularly Anton "tonyblack" Kolesnikov with a triple. Spirit then changed it up, hitting B and making it 6-2.
From there on out it was Spirit turning the match into a beatdown, winning round after round giving up but one, in which crush and tonyblack got doubles, for a 12-3 half which saw Spirit’s unrelentless abuse on A work out.
Doubles by jR and chopper gave Vega Squadron some hope for the second half, as they were able to take the first three rounds to bring it back to 6-12. Vega then took the first gun round of the second half, taking control of the economy to continue to close the gap. With 8-12 on the board, crush made a great spray transfer after getting molotoved out of ninja to take out two attacking players on A and help secure the round for his team.
Spirit were able to defend the sites one round, but were instantly reset as Vega Squadron relentlessly brought the score closer and closer, 11-13, with Spirit going into an eco round. An aggressive mid play in the following gun round didn’t work out for Spirit, giving one more round up for the tie. With 13-13 on the board, Dmitriy "Dima" Bandurka popped out of ladder room towards short and caught several Vega players in the back to keep his team ahead.
A 1vs1 that crush was able to win against Dmitry "S0tF1k" Forostyanko after a B plant tied it back up, 14-14. A four kill round by chopper including a 1vs2 afterplant clutch got Vega on the verge of winning. They then sealed the deal on the last round of regulation, making it 16-14 for a 1-0 record.
