Swole Patrol to EPICENTER Wild Card Qualifier over NRG

Swole Patrol have secured a spot in the wild card qualifier for EPICENTER 2018 after topping the North American closed qualifier with a 2-1 victory over NRG.

A total of six teams participated in the tournament, which offered a slot at the wild card qualifier for the Russian event, to be played offline. Swole Patrol started their journey in the quarter-finals, sweeping past both FURIA and eUnited to reach the final, while NRG, who had to field ex-Cloud9 member Jordan "n0thing" Gilbert as a stand-in as Damian "daps" Steele is in London as part of the broadcast team for the Major, began their run in the semis, taking down BlackOut 2-0.

NRG secured their map pick, Inferno, without allowing Swole Patrol to win more than five rounds. The IEM Shanghai winners carried their momentum into the next map, Cache, where they stormed to an 8-1 lead, but then Swole Patrol finally woke up and pinned their opponents against the ropes, losing only one more round before locking down the map, 16-9.

The series came down to the decider, Train, which saw NRG bounce back from the defeat to secure an 8-7 lead at halftime. Chet "ImAPet" Singh's troops also put in a strong T display and hit match point at 15-10, but, against all expectations, they let the game slip away from them as Swole Patrol won five in a row to equalise the score before running out victorious in overtime to complete the turnaround in the series.

Swole Patrol are the third team confirmed for the wild card qualifier - scheduled for October 22 -, joining Virtus.pro and ENCE, with two slots due to be filled by the winners of the CIS and the Chinese qualifiers.

On October 19, the team of this quintet that is ranked highest in the HLTV ranking will receive a direct invitation and will not have to participate in the qualifier.

Featuring a $300,000 prize pool, EPICENTER 2018 will kick off on October 23 with a three-day group stage, followed by the playoffs on October 27-28 at the Park of Legends Ice Palace, in Moscow.

Expected af, n0thing IGL vs people who actually wanna win. Sad for NRG to miss 2 big events like Epicenter and the Major. But at the same time maybe we got a bit too hyped and they're just overrated. At least the stupid people that were like "-n0thing +daps" will shut the fuck up now.

They were obviously throwing, it was painfull to watch this gameplay, solo pushing thru smokes, zero executes as t etc.

It's kinda hard to have any proper executes without your IGL.

Just cause there is no IGL isnt reason to play like monkeys, push thru smokes, always rush as T etc.

You don't understand how much structure an IGL brings to a team.

I understand that, i dont understand why when IGL is out all the structure is gone. Like they dont remember anything IGL teaches them

But you've got to understand that the IGL will watch all the demos, understand how to anti-strat a team, know what calls to make on the fly and counter a team. The rest of the team won't put in this work cos the IGL will. This means that without out an IGL the team won't know what what setups the other team play, what T strats they normally use and how to counter them on a strategic level. An IGL can make or break team.

But they didnt even make they own strats, they were just rushing and pushing smokes.

I guess you've never played at a competitive level. If you go into a game unprepared (like NRG did), your play will be puggy and you'll make weird plays to counter them.

I played onle LoL at competative level, thats why i dont understand why dont just use your old tactics without igl instead of rushing and pushing smokes

I play LoL too. You'd still have an IGL or someone who is calling the shots in-game.

When there is no IGL, someone still calls something, like you take two guys - insta baron call. You dont need igl for basics like this, and i think in cs you dont need igl to not push thru smokes all the time and ofc die.

Truth. But he's a pro player and it is his org that pays him the salary + this was a closed qualifier for a big tournament. He should have given up on being an analyst at the Major to play for his team. Just my 2 cents...
2018-09-10 03:17
He made a promise and epicenter compared to the Major, even as an analyst, is not as prestigious.
2018-09-10 03:51
Honestly Daps was about as professional as he could be about the whole thing. It sucks, but he agreed to do a job and didn't turn it down. It's not like he said yes knowing there would be a conflict, which would've been an entirely different scenario.
2018-09-10 06:48

Such a shitplay from NRG. I've been watching this game and yesterday one with Blackout. They played like they didn't care, or the opponent is "too easy" for them. Well, here are the results of that.
