The 32-year-old will be taking over from Jérôme "NiaK" Sudries, who is now described by G2 as being the team's manager after transitioning to a coaching role in March, when Edouard "SmithZz" Dubourdeaux stepped down from his position as coach to play competitively again.
maLeK is mostly known for his time with Envy, whom he most notably guided to a first-place finish at DreamHack Open Atlanta 2017 and to playoff appearances at the ESL Pro League Season 5 Finals and ELEAGUE Premier 2017.
After being released by the North American organisation, in May, he joined 3DMAX, helping the team to a 5th-6th place finish at the Europe Minor, where they beat LeftOut, a line-up featuring former Envy players.
According to G2, maLeK's appointment represents "an effort to improve" the team's performance before the organisation "begin exploring longer term commitments". The French team recently attended the FACEIT Major, going out in the New Legends Stage with a 2-3 record after losing to compLexity, MIBR and FaZe.
“I am glad to reunite with these boys and I am asking nothing but the best from them," he told G2's website. "We’ve spent a few days together already and I am looking forward to seeing them in action.
"There is a clear idea of where we are heading and the process behind it is all that matters. I trust them to start things here in NYC.”
The French team will attend ESL One New York, later this week, with:
Damien "maLeK" Marcel (coach)
