BLAST Pro Series Istanbul 2018 viewer's guide

With the second instalment of RFRSH's unique event concept BLAST Pro Series set to begin on Friday, we've collected all the information you'll need to enjoy the Turkish tournament.

Blast Pro Series Istanbul will take place from September 28-29 in the 15,000-seater Ülker Sports Arena and offers a $250,000 prize pool.

The Blast Pro Series concept is constructed to compress tournament action into just one day of arena play, and as such, the format sees the six directly invited teams play each other in a round-robin format with three best-of-one matches running simultaneously. The group stage will run on both tournament days, with nine total matches being played in the arena on Saturday. The the top two teams will then face off in a best-of-three grand final in the early evening.

SK (now MIBR) won the latest Blast Pro Series stop in Copenhagen in November

Before the grand final, the organizers have come up with a concept called 'BLAST Pro Standoff', a bonus match featuring a $20,000 prize, where the team placing 3rd in the group stage picks another remaining side to play in a match featuring five 1v1 aim duels.

The organizers behind BLAST Pro Series, RFRSH Entertainment, who also own the world's No.1-ranked team Astralis, have invited the recent Major champions as well as five other squads to the event, forming the full team list:

As part of the BLAST Pro concept, the teams have already completed the map vetoes for the group stage best-of-ones matches, a feature that has been both praised and criticised by players and viewers alike.

The full schedule for the event - with three matches being played at the same time in the group stage - can be found below:

ez 4 astralis
2018-09-26 13:49
Besides Asstralis the teams are tier5
2018-09-26 13:50
You don't know how tiers work.
2018-09-26 16:09
Clearly exaggerated
2018-09-26 16:24
Yes. I just wonder how those kids would actually classify csgo tiers.
2018-09-26 16:28
Well astralis atm is t0. Above all in terms of everything. This tournament is actually really weird. Astralis, mibr, VP? SS?? no competition for astralis tbh
2018-09-26 16:31
but tier is a range... Imo, besides VP all of the teams participating in this event are tear 1. There's no such thing as tear 0. Astralis is clearly better than the others but that doesn't mean that they are on a different tier. If you compare to football; Bayern is way ahead of Borussia but they still are both tier 1 german teams. I don't know if I was able to write my thoughts on a proper way.
2018-09-26 16:38
Yeah I can understand you. I only wrote t0 because astralis is so far ahead of all the other t1 teams. Of course there is no such thing as t0 ^^ I really don't know if I would consider SS and C9 tier 1 teams. They really dropped of. And nip just made improvements. It's possible that they fall flat here

I completely agree. Astralis liquid mouz mibr C9 all t1. They regularly attend big tournaments. Ig vp is technically t1 by that aspect but they always get invites and always drop out in groups so they’re exempt. But yea imo if you consistently attend big events and win matches then that’s t1. Optic ence coL etc are t2. Always having to go through quals and always underdogs = t2. Then the teams that compete regionally (not internationally) is t3
2018-09-26 17:07
Finally someone that understands what a tier is.

Cloud9 With flusha could be interesting, I hope to see C9 return to form a little bit with the added firepower. Astralis should win, but they might choke. Major winners rarely keep form immediately after the major

flusha is one of the most legendary riflers this game has ever seen. Styko is a scrub that was on a team that was top1 for like 15 minutes one time. He very rarely performed well on C9. Flusha should add more consistency, like another autimatic.

I think it's nice to see another format than all other TOs using. Imo the prep time given should take away the notion of randomness in BO1s somewhat. I see Astralis winning this 10/10 but who knows. Will be cool to see how Nip will play since they really had promise in London.
