Liquid walk over Gambit, secure grand final spot at ESL One New York

Liquid have disposed of Gambit 2-0 (Nuke 16-6, Inferno 16-3), securing a spot in the ESL One New York grand final, where they're set to meet mousesports.

After securing two wins over Na`Vi earlier on during in the tournament on Nuke, Gambit decided to pick the map again versus Liquid. The North American side began on the CT side and got off to a good start after clinching the pistol round and breaking their opponents' economy in the fifth round, as Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski clutched a 1v2.

However, Gambit's decision to forcebuy in the next round paid off, which led to a four-round streak going their way before the tide turned again. With just a half-buy, mostly CZ-75s and some armor, Liquid equalized the scoreline and Nick "nitr0" Cannella added a 1v2 clutch on top of that, inspiring his team to finish off the half with a 10-5 lead.

Liquid move on to the grand final, in which they'll go up against mousesports on Sunday

Soon it was 13-5 when an upper strategy in the second pistol round gave Liquid another great start into the half. After conceding the first gunround, they broke their opponents again, which allowed them to close out the map in quick fashion at 16-6.

Then it was time for Liquid's pick, Inferno, where nitr0 & co. once again got off to a flying start, leading 7-1 on the Terrorist side after racking up great economy in the first five rounds while Gambit struggled to defend either bombsite.

Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's side were looking to find some footing after converting a full eco round, but that was almost all they could do in the first half in the end, as Liquid secured 12 rounds on the offense. When they also added the second pistol round — their fourth in the series — to the board, it was only a matter of time before the crowd favorites finished off the series at 16-3, 2-0.

The prize money doesnt change the prestige of the tournament. Using your logic: WESG > major. I probably have more money than you, no reason to get personal.

mibr won the Zotac Cup a little over a month ago. I know it wasn't the biggest event but there were some good teams there and there was a decent prize pool. Steel also won CS_Summit 2 back at the start of the year with Team Liquid.
2018-09-30 00:41
no, there was 0 tier1 competition whatsoever at zotac and almost no tier2 competition, it was a tier3 tournament, the prize pool was indeed big but it does not change the prestige of the tournament, the only reason MIBR even went was because sk was raping them and not giving them space to bootcamp so the team agreed to play zotac because they were promised opportunity for a good bootcamp by zotac organization

Best chance all year for Liquid to take a Tournament, since Astralis is not there to kick their ass this time :D How ever i could easily see NRG kick their asses, sinces they have been known to choke heavily in finals this year :D All in all are great match to look forward to see tomorrow, that can go both ways !

HOW FAZE LOST TO GAMBIT? THAT DOESNT MAKE SENSE AT ALL!

 |
Canada Surzz
it makes a lot of sense. faze and even navi, play very loosely, which is very similar to gambits playstyle when two teams have the same kind of playstyle, it depends which teams players goes off. liquid play more structured and as a team, very differently from gambit. so what gambit does against navi and faze, won't work against a team like liquid.
2018-09-30 02:19

Finland Faifainei
So you are saying that faze and navi have no chance to beat liquid because they play loose cs and that doesnt work against them? Faze is a mess rn and so is navi in a way, they just lost the major finals and I guess they didnt train that hard or had a lack of motivation for this tournament because of that.
2018-09-30 11:30
He is saying that for faze to win vs gambit the players must be on point couse they got no structure

Whoever cast this match should be ashamed of themselves. They kept humiliating and insulting Gambit for no effing reasons. The guys did their job as much as they could possibly do given their level and circumstances. They kept hyping Liquid as if they are the best team in the world. Gambit won 4 maps against Navi just a few days ago for f's sake. What the f is wrong with you guys? It's disgusting really.

It's because they were utterly dominating gambit even on their own map that they beat navi against. Also the crowd had a very obvious favorite (liquid). You can have the opinion that they were to rough on gambit, I think they were just pointing out the obvious (maybe i didn't catch a few comments since i only watched the second half of inferno.)
2018-09-30 00:43
Astralis recently dominated MIBR 16:0 and casters kept supporting MIBR all the way through. This time it was just disgusting. And Gambit is not like tier 1 team nowadays, so I wouldn't have been so rough on them.

They weren't playing on astralis's turf (denmark). As well as some history with casters and players getting a ton of shit from brazilian fans for something they did or said. (Ex: Hiko getting death threats) As well with these rumors of h0bit leaving after having that core 4 forever, just to have all hope of them staying together utterly smashed. MIBR was still pretty new at the time.

First off to clarify I didnt watch this match, however I have watched some matches like the one described where the casters do nothing else than mock the losing team. Its unprofessional, rude to the half or so of the viewers that cheer for the team and not even mildly entertaining even if its your team that is crushing the opponent...
