OpTic ease past Renegades; advance to semi-final in Kiev

In the first quarter-final of the day, OpTic was in control of the game from start to finish and beat Renegades 2-0 (16-8 Dust2, 16-10 Inferno) to advance to the semis at StarSeries i-League S6.

Dust2 was the pick of Renegades and they started on the T side, but lost the pistol to a sneaky smoke play from Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke on short. The Australians did, however, get back on board early, but OpTic kept their economy low and broke them as they shut down a B rush in the followup (3-2).

With Renegades economically reset, OpTic advanced their lead to 7-3 before Aaron "AZR" Ward and co. managed to strike back with a succesful B-split. However, the once again were not able to follow up on it as k0nfig clutched a 1v2 on A and set up the Danes up for a 10-5 half.

After the switch, Renegades managed a flawless A site retake in the pistol and were looking to set themselves up for a good start by winning the first rifle round, but couldn't close out a 5v2 against René "cajunb" Borg and Jakob "JUGi" Hansen. The Australian side still managed to win the next round as both teams had weak buys, but OpTic then stole away a round with a Deagle short rush (12-8). In the following buy round of Renegades, JUGi, who was having a quiet game, got three AWP kills and allowed OpTic to win the game 16-8.

k0nfig was the catalyst for OpTic on Dust2

After another poor start, this time going 5-0 down to OpTic on Inferno, Renegades managed to get on the board as Jay "liazz" Tregillgas and Justin "jks" Savage locked down B. Just like on Dust2, an instant reset followed and Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer led his team to a massive, 9-1 lead on the Terrorist side.

On a weak buy, with some aggression on Banana and a triple kill from Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad, Renegades stopped the Danes' streak, adding a followup as the Norwegian and Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai put up a strong A site defense. They still only finished with four rounds as CT, with a mountain to climb on the offensive side.

Renegades secured the must-win pistol round and then dug themselves out of tough positions when the rifles rolled out, jks combined with jkaem and then liazz to clutch out rounds and make the score 11-9. cajunb and Nikolaj "niko" Kristensen then outplayed Renegades in a 2v3 to break the cycle, and OpTic started putting rounds on the board. As his team had a 15-10 lead, JUGi found two unanswered kills in the Apartments and added two more to close out the game, 16-10.

Still better than 2015 clg
2018-10-12 11:42
2015 CLG > Renegades CLG were a consistent top 15 team back when CSGO was more competitive. Now its like anyone can beat anyone in 2018.

I guess Astralis is unbeatable, not a single team can compete with them. 2017RNG>2015CLG
2018-10-12 11:58
Mate ur fucking high
2018-10-12 12:48
doesn't "anyone can beat anyone in 2018" make 2018 more competitive than "back when" because of precisly that???? if 1 or 2 teams win 100% not really competitive is it..
