Aleksib: "We aren't scared of OpTic and we want to get revenge for the Minor"
On the fifth match day at StarSeries i-League Season 6, in which all of the quarter-final matches are being played out, ENCE managed to beat BIG to secure a spot in the playoffs, where they will face Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke and the rest of OpTic for a spot in the $300,000 event's grand final.
In the interview, Aleksib talks about facing BIG and wondering how Fatih "gob b" Dayik & co. prepared for them, beating two top 10 teams in Kiev after saying his team could do so on day 1, and what the Finns need to polish before their semi-final match against OpTic tomorrow.
The first day you said you could beat top 10 teams on LAN. Since then, you beat two, mousesports and BIG, anything you want to tell the people who doubted you?
You have to be confident. If you come here thinking you can't beat them what are you even doing here? Of course I sounded a bit cocky, but sometimes you need to spice it up a bit.
Talking about sounding cocky, you're going up against k0nfig who said he's going to beat whoever they play next. Any thoughts on that?
He has been doing it for a long time, but OpTic hasn't been playing that well for the past months, so we're very confident and we aren't scared of them and we want to get revenge for the Minor.
You played them online, just one map on MDL right before coming, and you won. What were the feelings you had playing against them then?
It was just an online match, but it was very important for us because we had lost something like three games in a row before that and were in a little bit of a slump, you could say. After that, every practice we played went great, so we knew we just had to go into the next official match with a good mindset, and we beat OpTic and aAa before coming to this event, and we were already thinking we'd be comfortable on LAN.
Let's get into the BIG match a bit, what went through your head when you saw the draw?
I don't like playing BIG. We hadn't played them, but I know what gob b is like and you always have this thought in the back of your mind and you start to wonder if they've anti-stratted every round and stuff like that. You just have to forget that and play your own game. We had our own preparation, which we followed, and everything was going well, which gave us more confidence.
Overpass went pretty well for you at the beginning, but you gave up a big lead, in the end, losing some clutches including tiziaN's 1vs2 four-kill... How did you feel going into the overtime and bouncing back after?
We should have definitely closed it out. We haven't played Overpass that much in official matches but we have been practicing it, so I think they underestimated us. We know how we wanted to approach the game and things were working out for us. Then they won some crucial rounds, such sick rounds, smooya won a 1vs3, then the tiziaN round, a few 1vs1s...
After the match we were, like, "Holy sh*t, we should have won that," but then we were thinking that we just had to forget that map because we lost it in the clutches and we should have won. Then our map was up, so we just thought that if we were able to take them to overtime in their map, we were going to beat them in the two remaining maps.
Nuke was your pick, and you were definitely favored to win on it, but what about Train? Did you know the veto would end up with Train as the decider? Had you prepared it?
Yeah, we knew Train would be the decider, but mostly we just played our own game. We changed a few things, but not major things. We just knew that if we have the momentum we can do anything, so it was about not overthinking and just going into it confidently, and I think we played a great third map.
To close it out, as we said earlier, you're going to be facing OpTic next. What's going to be the key if you guys want to make it to the final?
It will be our communication. On Overpass things got a bit hectic at times, so we need to calm down a bit and keep the good communication rolling, to give all of the proper information to our teammates, and it will be way cleaner.
