ENCE beat Vega Squadron in five-map marathon, win StarSeries i-League Season 6
The best-of-five series began on Train, with ENCE running ahead as Counter-Terrorists at the beginning despite early back-and-forth forcebuy wins. Vega Squadron pulled it back with two rounds in a row, including a 1v2 clutch by Igor "crush" Shevchenko from the flank on B, but the Finns were soon back in the driving seat.
It wasn't until 9-3 when the Russian-Ukrainian side made a B execute work and topped it off with another round before ENCE clinched the last round for a 10-5 lead heading over to the offense.
Their lead started to dwindle away when Vega Squadron secured the second pistol and Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov clutched a 1v1 in the first gunround. Not even Jere "sergej" Salo's 1v2 with just a Deagle prevented ENCE's opponents from claiming their first lead, which they mounted on the back of crush's quad-kill with a saved AWP.
Aleksi "allu" Jalli & co. retook the lead with a lot of success towards the B bombsite and reached 14 rounds, but they were unable to convert a couple of advantageous retake scenarios. Turning around a 3v5 and a 2v4, Vega Squadron equalized things at 14-14 and soon ran out victors at 16-14 with two convincing defenses.
Inferno followed and ENCE once again got off to a great start, this time on the Terrorist side, following Jani "Aerial" Jussila's heroics in the pistol round as he grabbed a quad-kill and a last-second 1v1 clutch. Vega's first round came in the sixth when chopper stepped up with a triple, but they got reset immediately after and ENCE extended their lead to 10-1.
Vega Squadron gave themselves a chance with two out of the last four rounds of the first half, as well as a pistol round in the second to claw back to 6-12. However, when it came to the gunrounds, it was all about ENCE, who claimed a 16-6 win to equalize the series at 1-1.
ENCE once again grabbed the first pistol of the map on Dust2 after defending the B bombsite, but, just like on Train, they lost to a forcebuy in the second, as Vega Squadron opted for a quick short push with Deagles. With crush clutching a 1v3 in the fifth round, Vega got up to 4-1 before ENCE put their foot down with four in a row.
The half went back and forth until the end, which put the Finnish squad in the 8-7 lead going into the Terrorist side. There, they added another pistol round win on the board and managed to survive the next forcebuys to start inching closer to the win.
Vega Squadron struggled in the first couple of gunrounds, but chopper's 1v1 clutch allowed the CIS-based team to claw back into contention for the map, stringing five close rounds in a row together for 12-13. However, the close rounds meant that once sergej clutched a 1v2 on A, Vega's economy was shredded and ENCE powered to a 16-12 win to claim a 2-1 lead in the series.
It was time for Mirage, where the two teams went toe-to-toe from the start, as neither team were able to establish good economy until it was 5-4 in favor of Vega. That's when ENCE started to pull away thanks to a forcebuy win, as well as a few tight anti-forcebuy scenarios, which allowed them to get a 9-6 half on the defense.
The map was even once more when Vega Squadron claimed the second pistol round for 9-9 before Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen gave his team the first gunround with an impressive quad-kill on A. Anton "tonyblack" Kolesnikov replied with a 1v1 clutch as Vega Squadron retook the lead, and the two teams continued to go back and forth in close scenarios.
At 12-12, tonyblack single-handedly defended the A bombsite to send his opponents on a low force, and, this time, Vega Squadron survived against the scrappy buy, which put a stop to ENCE, who were unable to get back into the match, as chopper ended things after winning a 1v1 for 16-12, 2-2.
It all came down to Overpass, and there, the map was in full control of ENCE from the start. Despite losing to a halfbuy in the third round, the Finnish squad went up 7-1 on the offense after securing a couple of clutches, courtesy of allu and Aleksib. Vega Squadron were able to get two more rounds on the board, but they got reset after each win, which opened an avenue for ENCE to secure a dominant 12-3 half.
Dmitriy "jR" Chervak's men attempted to claw their way back into the final map with important wins in the pistol and the gunround in the second half to get within four rounds of their opponents. However, ENCE clinched the second gunround cleanly, which stopped Vega from breaking their economy despite replying right back, and the Finns went on to secure the series with a 16-9 victory.
