HellRaisers to attend EPICENTER Wild Card Qualifier; AVANGAR advance to group stage

Professeur
October 15th, 2018 14:41

After mousesports announced that they would be withdrawing from EPICENTER, the tournament organizer revealed that they will be replaced with a team from the CIS Qualifier, HellRaisers.

In the announcement post, EPICENTER revealed that mousesports stated that "conflict within the team" was the reason they withdrew from the $300,000 tournament. With little time left to find a new team and for them to get visas for Russia, EPICENTER decided to invite HellRaisers to fill in the gap.

HellRaisers will have a chance to bounce back from a poor showing in Kiev next week in Moscow

EPICENTER explained that HellRaisers will be competing in the Wild Card qualifier on October 22 since they "were defeated in the CIS qualifier and are not eligible for entering the group stage based on their ranking". Instead, AVANGAR, the winner of the EPICENTER CIS Qualifier, will be moved up to the group stage directly.

As of now, the EPICENTER team list looks as follows:

North America Liquid
Sweden NiP
Other Invite
Other Wild Card #2

The five teams that qualified for the Wild Card Qualifier will claim the remaining three spots at the tournament. The last invite will be handed to the team from that group (excluding HellRaisers) that has the highest HLTV.org ranking on October 19th, while the remaining four teams will battle for the last two spots in the double-elimination Wild Card LAN qualifier on October 22nd.

The following five teams earned a spot in the Wild Card qualifier:

Totally agree, but Imperial players need visa for Russia cuz basically Lithuania is EU country, not CIS (so only nexa whos from Serbia doesnt need the visa), when HR players don't need it, that's the reason.

well, woxic, issaa and deadfox doesnt need visas?
2018-10-15 17:21
Well, woxic definitely not, Deadfox does need, not sure about Issa.
2018-10-15 18:18
HR players did travel to Kiev at SL, Minsk at FCDB Cup, thats why they probably have visas and less problems entering CIS than Imperial players, who if im not mistaken haven't played any LANs in CIS
2018-10-16 08:22
Please note, that CIS as political union de-facto doesnt exist, and certainly there is no acceptance for visas issued by another state (e.g visa issued by Ukraine will be not valid for Belarus and vice-versa). From that perspective absolutely doesnt matter if HR participated in events hosted in CIS countries or not - they still required to have Russian visa to enter (excepting Ukrainian and Turkish players ofc).

I agree that it's wierd that EPICENTER gave HR the invite if they allowed Imperial to play, but Imperial shouldn't have been allowed to play from the start

Even if you consider Ukraine CIS (which it's not) then it's only 2/5 CIS for Hellraisers. Saying Imperial abuse CIS qualifier is funny when Hellraisers abuse it in major and you will never see them play EU qualifier if there is CIS one

I read a bit about it, and yeah it's seems like they are kinda out of it, but they are still financially supporting the region. Either way Ukraine should count as CIS in CS. But I agree that it's a shame with teams abusing CIS quals because they are easier. Imo CIS quals should be removed for most tournaments and replaced with EU quals with more slots. Not all CIS qualifiers, since it's still important to grow the region, but for example major CIS quals should be merged with EU. For the CIS Asia countries like Kazakhstan they can play in asian quals.

That's because they were temporarily in EU, and EU has harder qualifiers anyway. Imperial played in CIS most likely because it's easier

#112 same as hellraisers hltv.org/ranking/teams/2018/october/8/co.. there's also a chance there's more russian speaking players in imperial since only ange1 and bondik speak it in hellraisers. also another thing to consider they are already super close to russia and finished playing while in ukraine since they were getting ready for Starladder.

2 CIS in HR = CIS Qualifier So therefore 2 EU in C9 would mean EU qualifier by same logic
2018-10-16 18:57
no... if there is a majority you go with that, in c9's case that would be NA if there is no majority, as is the case with HR, you get to pick from either of the equal highest, which is CIS or ASIA, or if you count turkey as eu then CIS or EU
