Astralis have secured their place in the IEM Chicago grand final after defeating fnatic 2-1 in the semis.

The best-of-three semi-final match started on Dust2 with the Swedes playing on the CT-side in the first half. Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson secured the pistol round with a quad kill but Astralis hit back in the following round to make it 1-1.

Astralis managed to make it 5-1 with a 2vs5 post plant victory thanks to Nicolai "device" Reedtz's quad kill with the AWP. Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth's 1vs3 clutch in the seventh round made it 7-1 and a 3vs5 win in the following round gave Astralis their eighth.

The Danes managed to pull through in the end

Astralis extended their lead to 11-3 with yet another clutch, this time a 1vs2 by Emil "Magisk" Reif. After finishing the first half 12-3 ahead, the Danes picked up the first two rounds in the second half without losing a single player.

KRIMZ & company were able to rack up three consecutive rounds but a triple kill by device in the 21st round gave Astralis nine map points (15-6). fnatic then won eight rounds in a row but couldn't complete the comeback as Astralis won the map 16-14.

The second map, Mirage, kicked off with the CT-sided Astralis taking the first two rounds. fnatic claimed six of the following seven rounds to lead 6-3 but the Danes came back and tied the game at 7-7 thanks to a 1vs2 clutch by Xyp9x in the 14th round.

fnatic went out in 3-4th place

fnatic finished the first half 8-7 ahead but lost the first two rounds in the second half. Jesper "JW" Wecksell took the stage in the 18th round, tying the game at 9-9 with a quad kill. fnatic's defense remained strong and the Swedes went on to take the 16-12 map victory.

The decider was Inferno and fnatic started on the T-side. After trailing 2-1, fnatic won six rounds in a row to lead 7-2. Astralis picked up the victory in the 10th round but got reset in the following one when KRIMZ got a triple kill (8-3). fnatic had an 11-4 lead at halftime.

Astralis will be competing for this trophy

Astralis won the second pistol to get their fifth round and followed it up with an anti-eco victory. fnatic responded with a buy in the third round of the half and won it after Richard "Xizt" Landström got a double kill (12-6).

The Swedes almost made it two in a row but device & Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander clutched a 2vs4 to win their team's seventh round. fnatic got their 13th round thanks to double kills by JW and Xizt (13-9).

Simon "twist" Eliasson's triple kill made it 14-9 and JW earned his team six match points by defusing the bomb in a 1vs2 situation. Astralis denied all the match points, tying the game at 15-15 and taking the game to overtime.

gla1ve's team finished off the map in overtime, winning it 19-17. With the 2-1 series victory, they have advanced to the grand final at IEM Chicago.

Astralis got so lucky. Especially on d2. Fnatic clearly was the better team today.

Guys fnatic are under reconstruction. they showned like a top3 team, with a change I think that in 6 months they will be the first . They lost only due to the experience of xyp9x, it s incredible and he pushed B maximum. Astralis in that situation have been defeated by any team for top10 but no fnatic...how Lw cant close the game???? they shouldnt risk and to cover B or A from 6 rounds...great play from Astralis

Brollan should have gone for straight defuse in the 1v1 vs Xyp9x. It would have been hilarious.

That's what you get for giving up banana control single time in the CT side. Astralis went B almost all the rounds that they got banana control and fnatic still insisted on keeping just 2 players playing very passive there.
2018-11-11 00:46
Fnatic were better on making plays but astralis better team and better reads ,I don't care who win but I enjoy this series very much, fnatic look promising if xitz can recreate himself to a good igl fnatic can be top3
2018-11-11 00:49
Nice try Fnatic.First big event with new lineup. You did awesome job, good job and gl in future Astralisa i dunno what to say you gonna lose vs ma bojs faze

Really entertaining game! Not great by Astralis' standards but fortunately Fnatic are just not a great team so they were still able to pull it back in exciting fashion :-)

That 30th round was just textbook CS. Beautiful round being 1 man down, pushing b on a 3 man stack, and converting it to a 4v2. Krimz looked like a fucking rookie. Astralis playing boring CS.. more like extremely beautiful CS. Great match. Fnatic looking promising. Looking forward to following them in the next couple of months.

I guess it comes down to what we define as "beautiful cs". I beg to differ on that matter since individual performances by Astralis didn't impress me that much. Fnatic on the other hand actually displayed a different set of skillsets that took them a long way, almost to victory. With a fresh rookie lineup like that, I think their acheivement is much greater IMHO.

Did we watch the same game? How is this not impressive? Xyp9x on Inferno in the 19 round wins: 25:5 score 6 assists 134 ADR 100% KAST 6 opening kills 7 multi-kills 1vs1 clutch for 14-15!
2018-11-12 02:51
cheating fakkot tried everything missed almost none of the critical kills but still lost if he'd just use larger pov for his aimbot just like he used to thing would be different his balls has been shrinking but why

What a comeback. I was really hoping Fnatic could win this but Astralis proving why they are the best team in the world with this composure.

2018-11-11 12:59
Xyp9X was on his bullshit shots again. Playing very brazilian. Fnatic would've won the series had admins properly checked astralis PCs but good thing that exactly like 2017, their hacks are getting outdated. Last time hacker Kjaerbye left. Is this the time finally Gla1ve and Xyp9X for actual non hacking talent like k0nfig and jugi?

oh just wait till this team again gets fucking deleted from majors at the group stages. Same shit happened in 2017, Analysts drooled, everyone knew kjaerbye and glaive were hacking their ass off. Now its xyp9x and glaive. Again you will suck and 1 player will bolt
