Matthew "WARDELL" Yu has inked a new deal with Ghost, the North American organisation have announced.

The 20-year-old has signed a "multi-year agreement" to extend his stay with the North American organisation, whom he joined in April 2017 along with the rest of the Bee's Money Crew line-up.

The Canadian AWPer is widely regarded as one of the hottest prospects in his region. This year, he has averaged a 1.19 rating on LAN, and he is currently the fourth highest rated player in the North American ESL Pro League division (1.23), in which Ghost have already guaranteed a spot in the qualification zone for the offline finals.

Wardell has signed a "multi-year" deal with Ghost

In the official announcement, Ghost CEO Matt Dillon stated his belief that WARDELL "has become one of the world's premier CS:GO athletes", and admitting to being "thrilled" that the player has re-committed his future to the organization.

Ghost, who will attend DreamHack Open Atlanta later this week, have the following roster:

Canada Joshua "steel" Nissan
Canada Yassine "Subroza" Taoufik
Canada Matthew "WARDELL" Yu
United States Kenneth "koosta" Suen
United States Jason "neptune" Tran

United States James "JamezIRL" Macaulay (coach)

There are like 20 premier tournaments during the year and he can't go to 2 of them. Not that big of a deal.

sticker money will be worth it for him compared to his salary on GHOST probably also if he gets picked up by a better team to go to a major he will get a better salary (probably) and also they wont win any of those 20 premier tournamnets because ghost suck...

They aren't that bad. I can see them making runs in some smaller tournaments. Your other points are valid, though.
2018-11-13 22:23
When you sign a multi-year deal when you don't have to in negotiations it usually means someone paid up. Either Ghost paid up, Wardell didn't get many better offers, or he just felt comfortable with Ghost. I think it's likely Ghost matched other offers or offered more because he's a great player to build a team around for the near and distant future.

Id hope so because that team is dead atm, the only reason they get any results at all is because wardell drops 30 every game
2018-11-14 08:11
I'm hesitant to say one thing or another because summit isn't exactly a serious event and ESL doesn't matter since they're in the playoffs no matter what. If they don't get to the dreamhack atlanta finals there is a problem.

2018-11-13 13:26
Exactly he is hurting himself by getting this long contract he is just gonna end up fuckin himself over when/if a really big org like Liquid wants him.
2018-11-13 14:03
If a big org _really_ wants him they will buy him out. No issue here. Just safety net for himself.

Depends really how high his buyout is set for.
2018-11-13 19:57
This is a fair point. I doubt he would sign a contract that would handcuff him into a tier 3 team though. That's common sense, right? I hope at least.

And if you used your brain, you would've figured out that buying out someone who doesn't want to play for you - is not a smart idea.
2018-11-13 21:22
...What? I didn't even make any points towards this? Ironic with the brain comment. If he wants to play with a bigger org (and the rest of the org wants to play with him), they will buy him out, that was my point. Not whatever you just wrote.

He didn't want to play for C9 or Liquid or any other bigger org. He wants to stay with Ghost. Why would you buy out someone, who doesn't want to represent your org? The org will not spend money on someone who doesn't want to play for them, even if the other org likes the deal (money).
2018-11-14 15:39
Dude, are you incapable of reading the word IF? I'm not saying he will, or speculating what the fuck he wants to do, I'm saying IF he wants to do it at some point, it is a goddamn possibility. Jesus.

If they consider him to be a franchise player, you give the man franchise money. Keep faith in steel being able to build a team (one that may not even include himself in the future).

I can’t beleive it hadn’t happened already. I think liquid see that not having a dedicated awper is a problem and will grab him. Or c9 replace flusha with him.

I am excited for him to get a new contract but a long term deal does not seem to be best. On a team with a guy banned from all majors is going to be tough to swallow down the road. Ghost benefited from this as a team will probably be willing to buy him out for a larger amount due to the length of the contract. Win-win for the org, not so much for the player.
