Vitality outclass Luminosity to win DreamHack Atlanta
After encountering a few bumps along the road Vitality put on a masterclass to claim their first title. It was the sort of display that the team needed, after a slow start to the tournament, and this time around they did not even require a carry performance by Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut, who still showed his individual brilliance with a stunning ace on Overpass.
Luminosity tried to make the most of their Mirage pick - a map Vitality had not yet played in Atlanta -, but they soon came to regret that choice as the French side always appeared a class above. Gustavo "yel" Knittel's men found themselves on the back foot early on, getting on the scoreboard for the first time only seven rounds into the game.
The Brazilian side struggled to break through Vitality's double AWP set up with a slow approach, so they upped the pace in an effort to open up the map. That strategy worked for a while and Luminosity brought the scoreline to 4-7, but the Europeans were not willing to let a comeback happen and won the remaining rounds of the half.
Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer went huge in the second half pistol with a 1v2 clutch to kick Vitality further into the lead. Luminosity still sought a response, but the French team refused to ease off the gas and locked down the map at 16-4.
Henrique "HEN1" Teles opened up the action on Overpass with a trio of USP kills in the canal to put Luminosity in the lead for the first time in the series. Vitality responded in the third round and took the reins of the game after that, shutting down any chances of the Brazilians stringing rounds together.
The Brazilians were now clearly in disarray, their next round win being once again traded back immediately by a Vitality side on eco, this time off the back of a great play by Dan "apEX" Madesclaire. The 25-year-old's trio of kills, two of them in a 1v2 situation, put his team on championship point and left Luminosity with no money in the bank to prevent the Frenchmen from running away with the game.
