Grayhound, Renegades finalize Asia Minor team list

The Oceania closed qualifier for the Asia Minor concludes with Grayhound and Renegades claiming the two qualification spots to the next stage.

After qualifying for ESEA MDL Season 29 Global Challenge and PLG Grand Slam this month, Grayhound continued their dominant form in the BO3 double-elimination Asia Minor qualifier.

Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga and co. trounced TRIDENT in their opening match-up and edged past local rivals ORDER and Renegades in the upper bracket, where they became the first squad from the Oceanic region to qualify for the Asia Minor.

Grayhound secure their first Asia Minor appearance

After missing out on IEM Chicago due to visa issues, Renegades' coach Aleksandar "kassad" Trifunović reunited with "the boys" in Sydney, Australia ahead of the closed qualifier.

Aaron "AZR" Ward's crew ran over Breakaway in their opener and followed it up with a close 2-1 victory against former comrade Karlo "USTILO" Pivac' Tainted Minds in the upper bracket semi-final.

Despite falling to Grayhound in the upper bracket final in a nail-biting series, Justin "jks" Savage' side bounced back in the consolidation final, where they fought Tainted Minds for the second time and claimed the last qualification spot for the Asia Minor.

Grayhound and Renegades will join six other Asian teams at the Minor from January 22-26 in Katowice, Poland. From there, the top two teams will advance to the IEM Katowice 2019 Major's New Challenger Stage, while the third-place team will be given another chance to qualify on January 27 against the other regions' third-place sides.

So lets have an african minor too? How about good regions get more spots and shit regions get less spots. If Asia becomes stronger between majors they can adjust the distribution. Rn asia and cis getting the same amount as eu is ridiculous

Asia Share a spot with APAC. If anything, it shouldy just be share CIS and EU, like APAC and Asia are shared. Then thats 4 spots for EU?/CIS, and Asia/APAC have 2. That make ense to me.

yea thats always been my view. Taking away a spot from Asia/APAC would mean that either tyloo (if they dont manage to stay in challangers ) or renegade wll be in the challangers stage, which would honestly be horrible... theyre both teams worthy of challanger stage.

And how do you suppose we measure just how strong one Region is compared to another if "x" region is granted more spots for majors. I think the current system is great, also... even though this is a CSGO site, lets not forget TSMs underdog performance against Team WE at the IEM Katowice 2015 Final. Memorable moments like this wouldn't exist without the current system. This was in the era when no one would have ever thought of an NA team taking out a Major. Anyways, gogo Renegades and Grayhounds.. would be great to see 2 Aussie teams in the Majors.

Probably a troll to bait and trigger me.. i got triggered. You judge a region based on how well the teams do between majors.. HLTV ranking is an ok measure too, but it inflates asia and au because of their own stuff. We have barely even seen grayhound play non asian teams, and the few times we have, they've been totally useless. I think they beat SK once, after they got stewie? Yet they might qualify over a mountain of better, and proven teams. Barely top 50. Why the fuck should they get stickers in the game and a spot at a major? And the last time we saw Renegades was at Chicago, where they lost to LDLC in a bo3. In EU, LDLC haven't even gotten through the open qualifiers for the eu minor for how competitive it is in EU. And even if they did, there's still as many spots available as there is for cis and asia. Nice system eh. NONE of teams in the asian minor would probably even get through the EU open qualifiers. what even is that tsm comment.... there's a BILLION events in a year for these teams to make an underdog run and have memorable moments. Yet they're always garbage. Rather have teams that deserve it at the major, since it's supposed to be the absolute most competitive event of the year.

"what even is that tsm comment.... there's a BILLION events in a year for these teams to make an underdog run and have memorable moments." Maybe stop and think, could Grayhounds/RNG do that this year in the IEM Major (if they make it through). "Rather have teams that deserve it at the major, since it's supposed to be the absolute most competitive event of the year". And it is the absolute most competitive event of the year, all of your EU teams has to compete against each other to get to the Majors right? Just like every other Region has with their own respective teams. CS isn't all about the EU.... I really just want to facepalm this comment, "deserve"... wow.. Furthermore, it may be worth adding... cullings spots from other regions would only hinder the event in terms of spectators. Let's just make all Majors based on teams in the EU... Any takers from other regions in spectating the event where they don't have any local teams to support? Look at it from a business perspective... you keep fanboying over your EU teams, and I'll fanboy over my AU teams, isn't this what the event is about as well? Need I say no more.

"Maybe stop and think, could Grayhounds/RNG do that this year in the IEM Major (if they make it through)." Based on past results no. Even if they did more teams deserve to be there instead. You could ask the same question about every team ever. "And it is the absolute most competitive event of the year, all of your EU teams has to compete against each other to get to the Majors right? Just like every other Region has with their own respective teams. CS isn't all about the EU.... I really just want to facepalm this comment, "desverve"... wow.." Yeah, rather have the best teams in the world compete at the major itself, have the most hardworking teams get the stickers rather than shitters that never get anything done outside of their own region. Why should obviously better players and teams be punished for being from a more competitive region? Why not have a minor for africa too? Antarctica? The best teams would come out of there just like all the others hurr durr most competitive event therefore nice logic

"Why not have a minor for africa too? Antarctica? The best teams would come out of there just like all the others hurr durr most competitive event therefore nice logic" It is great logic. An African minor would be great, attracts additional spectators from Africa to support a regional team. And how are EU teams punished being from a supposedly "superior" region? If they are as strong as believed, it dramatically increases their chances of taking out the major and the cash along with it too. You don't seem to get it yet, do you? I've been apart of the CS scene since 1.3-1.4... to see how far the scene has come is astounding. I really hope no one even remotely considers your advice, this would be a huge backwards step for e-sports overall.

2 direct spots for african teams is great is it....... Yikes. alright don't stop there, let's divide the whole planet evenly into 24 minors solely based on land area and give 1 spot for each. Clearly by your logic this would result in the most competitive and highest viewership. 200iq esports scene lets take this huge step forward
