NRG keep North at bay; MIBR demolish Sharks

ESL Pro League Season 8 Finals continued with NRG's 16-13 victory against North on Train and MIBR's 16-2 triumph over Sharks on Inferno.

NRG and North squared off on Train in one of the Group B opening games. The North American team started the game on the CT-side and secured the pistol round with Ethan "Ethan" Arnold's triple kill. Ethan got another triple, this time in the first weapon round to make it 3-0.

Despite losing the fifth and seventh rounds, NRG remained in control and extended their lead to 9-2, with their ninth round coming after a 1vs2 by Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov. North turned around a 3vs5 disadvantage in the 12th round and followed it up with another close round where Nicklas "gade" Gade prevented the defuse in a 1vs3 (9-4).

NRG managed to finish off a close game

Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså stepped up with a triple kill in the final round of the half to give North their sixth (9-6). Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte found himself in a 1vs2 in the second pistol and rose up to the occasion, killing valde and Philip "aizy" Aistrup to make it 10-6.

After losing the first two rounds of the second half, North took six of the following seven to tie the game at 12-12. NRG then won two 4vs4 post-plants, first on B and then on the outer bombsite (14-12).

NRG acquired three match points after an anti-eco and almost closed out the game in the 28th round but aizy defused the bomb inside a smoke in a 1vs2 to keep North alive. Nonetheless, NRG closed out the game in the following round, winning 16-13.

The other Group B game was between two Brazilian teams—MIBR and Sharks. Rodrigo "RCF" Figueiredo and Raphael "exit" Lacerda picked up double kills in a 4vs4 post plant to win the pistol round for their T-sided team. MIBR responded by taking three consecutive rounds and could have made it four but Jhonatan "jnt" Silva and exit clutched a 2vs4 as their team trailed 3-2.

tarik had Sharks' number

MIBR wreaked havoc with scoped weapons as Tarik "tarik" Celik dominated with the AUG while Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo & Marcelo "coldzera" David chimed in with the AWP while Jake "Stewie2K" Yip had multi-kill rounds with both the AWP and the AUG. MIBR ended the half 13-2 ahead with a ten round streak.

coldzera's quad kill in the second pistol was more than enough to pick up the round victory. tarik & Fernando "fer" Alvarenga closed out the game with a 2vs3 victory as MIBR moved on in the upper bracket with a 16-2 victory.
