Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen has been benched in FaZe and has announced he is seeking opportunities in other organizations.

After a disappointing season in which FaZe fell out of the top 5, albeit briefly, for the first time since September of 2017, the European team has announced that karrigan, their former in-game leader, has been moved to a substitute position.

karrigan will no longer be on FaZe's active lineup

During his time in FaZe, karrigan won seven trophies, including an ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier and several ESL events such as ESL One Belo Horizonte or IEM Sydney, but the team fell off this season with only one victory, at EPICENTER 2018, a few playoffs runs, including a quarter-final exit at the Major, and a group stage flop at ESL One New York 2018.

The move comes somewhat expectedly after rumors of the Dane having one foot and a half out of FaZe came earlier this season when Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač took over the in-game leadership of the team.

FaZe's lineup is now:

You fail to get me, IGL role is highly overrated, IGL doesn't have any special responsibilities, mid-round calls, little preparation before the matches and that's basically it. But the thing is that, any player regardless of the role should be playing up to his level and deliver when needed. Most IGLs fail to do so, NiKo never will.

Wtf? IGL is the most important role in a team. First of all the igl is the captain because of his personality to take a direction and a leadership in a team. The project itself is build it by the igl most of the time. Then in a map the leader is always making sure everyone is doing their job, etc. He is always watching others monitor setting up all, because the other ones cant do all that plus watching demos/making new strats etc. To be an igl is exhausting and is really tired but that captain have the fire a team needs to make it more competitive and winner. 70% of the success of a team is because of the preparation match, the creative strats and the mid round calls, making good decisions. All that stuff, all the details are by the igl and coach. That's why fallen glaive karrigan zeus are really important in this game.

He was a leader, someone the players obeyed and trusted. That's what brought them structure. There is more to a team then fragging players. Obviously, everyone should be confident enough to win the fights that come to them.. It's a lot harder though if you're without confidence and can't really build it up playing more taxing roles on the team.

An IGL has to have the full picture during the round, he takes in all the info from the players. From what the lurker sais, to utilities used, frags. Take that together with knowing tendencies of the enemy team and calculates what the best move will be. A LEADER! That requires alot of thoughtprocess and will affect your fragging power. Point in case, see how Karrigan OFTEN got multiple kills defending a site, or had great flanks when he wasnt worrying about IGL. All players have their strength. IGL is a VERY important role. Go ahead and belive that IGL role is nothing. If you ever hope to go professional, reality will hit you hard.

That would actually be so good. The reason C9 was so good with Tarik calling is because he had a loose style and lot of firepower to work with, including himself. If he could replicate this in FaZe it would be insane especially with Niko off the igl role.

Possibly, but NiKo is already a really good secondary AWP. The main reason for wanting MSL is for his leading, with the 4 remaining players, firepower shouldn't be an issue even if he got no kills every match.

Possibly, but I hope not. NiKo is an ok IGL and has somewhat of his own unique style and read on the game but I doubt he can keep doing that in the long term because we'd just end up with another NiKosports. MSL is probably the best option they have a chance of getting.

He's the most overrated igl leader of all time in cs. He flat out sucks skillwise, and brings nothing to the table. You guys think he did so much for faze because faze were winning during their honeymoon period. But realistically, how much work does one have to do with Niko, Guardian, Rain, and fucking Olofmeister on their team? He has always been too cocky for his own good, and serves him right straight up. He should be on an all time garbage team with MSL, TACO, JW, SmithZ, and ex6 as their headcoach. I've played and watched CS longer than every name you just mentioned. I can even tell you karrigan got popular and made a name for himself on the scene from a frag highlight in Ruination. There's a reason he consistently gets dropped by teams, for those teams to later find far more success without him. This is a fact, with no room for interpretation. Lmao and how would you guarantee that? I first played this game in 1.1 when half-life deathmatch was the hotter MOD than cs. Started playing this game a lot right after 1.3 came out as most old school cs players. That could only be shocking to Newfags such as yourself. When Thorin first started casting he was the biggest scrub, his analysis was straight up cringe worthy and often times the polar opposite of what he was saying. Just a nobody casting games on vent, before eventually getting enough experience to have a worthwhile opinion. CS movies? There barely was any in the beginning. The big surge of fragmovies didn't happen until after Steam when Sony Vegas became mainstream. I was obviously speaking about the games in general, not by my impressions. Doesn't exactly take a genius to browse servers and amount of players in-game or on numerous tracking sites. 1. +1. Sadden by the move. The team was choking left and right and it wasn't his fault. Everyone told them to get a psychologist but never did. I don't see FaZe getting any better with that broken mentality. They apparently learn nothing from MIBR.

FaZe's philosophy is always to get the best and put them together. When the team is not winning and karrigan is not fragging, they simply think he is not the "best" anymore. They will never gonna dig deep and address the underline problem which is their broken mentality. If there is a ranking for choking, FaZe is certainly #1 by a mile. I thought the team itself AKA GuardiaN, Olof, rain and NiKo are smarter than this. They wouldn't choose this cheap workaround but I guess I was wrong.

Well, FaZe started the year with 2 chokes at Major and Katowice which were two biggest events of this year. So whatever ESL events that TL choked on doesn't hold a candle. However, I do see your point. TL and FaZe would kick anyone else's ass in term of choking. I feel TL has been doing better in term of their mentality. They mentioned several times they have been working with a sport psychologist to address the issue which sometimes FaZe never did.

The difference is that FaZe could of won both major and katowice, and yes they lost both but it was close, could of gone both ways, while Liquid in most of their grand finals this year, they weren't even close of winning.Do you get my point? Still with all these problems FaZe managed to be the 2nd best team with 3 t1 events wins - one of them against Astralis 3-0.The others teams that won t1 event this year are Navi, fnatic and north(i dont consider blast pro series as a t1 event for sure) :)

Well, this is the end of FaZe. Kick karrigan will never fix the freaking broken mentality they have this whole year. They will get a fifth and keep choking/losing. GuardiaN will probably retire as a result. They're probably gonna chop Rain next. By the end of 2019, we will have a new roster with NiKo and Olof. They will become the new Mouz, in and out of Top 5 but never gonna win a Major.

I believe the problem with the team was never karrigan. Even if karrigan is the weakest link, with that much firepower from NiKo, rain, Olof and GuardiaN, they could streamroll anybody. They just choke because the issue is in their heads. Look at NaVi, they literally play with 4 bots + s1mple and they still make stuff happen because they don't choke. In the end of day, we won't know if kicking karrigan is a good move or not until the results show up next year. I don't think it is personally but hey I can be totally wrong. We will see, won't we?

Why is robban not kicked? He's useless in this team. It feels like he doesn't bring anything to the team. I'm actually surprised. Karrigan wasn't the worst part of FaZe. At least robban was more useless and should have been kicked before karrigan. FaZe is actually playing without a coach. NaVi looks way better and they consistently play at least with 2 bots.

Because FaZe have always cracked under pressure this year except for IEM Sydney. If you listened to Magisk's interview, he said that zonic helpsb them a lot when the pressure is high or the opposition are doing really well. Same with people like Zews, Kane. RobbaN doesn't seem to be helping them.

Karrigan goes to North most likely. Think it's sad though that even now people still don't see the value of structure, and that it is superior to the value of skill. FaZe already have the most skilled line-up CS:GO has ever seen, and still they are not the best team. Swapping out Karrigan for more skill isn't going to improve the team. Still I do hope that s1mple moves on from Natus Vincere, not necessarily to FaZe but it surely is an option.

NiKo shouldn't be IGL. He will make more space for himself alone on a team which has GuardiaN, one of the best AWPers of all time. Rain should've gone, Stewie should've been picked and Karrigan returned to the IGL role. Also, as the other comments say, RobbaN should leave. Unlike Zonic, Zews or even Kane, he provides nothing when the team is struggling or cracking under pressure. His lack of effort actually has lead to the lack of belief in Karrigan's calling. FaZe ungrateful team.

STEWIE LOL. Rain is better than stewie he just has this shitty role with no support whatsoever. Karrigan sucked at Major and got replaced by Niko and if it was not for him they wouldnt be major legends they'd be fighting for requalification in the minor. NiKo can IGL and frag he just needs someone with him. I'd say tarik is a good choice but is he willing to move to europe? Because of ping issues they can't play together. So chrisJ seems to be best option IF they want to get an actual IGL. If they want a fragger support i'd easily go after KRIMZ he could bring firepower, stability and extra motivation to partner with olofmeister.

Before olof left FaZe temporarily, they always performed well when Rain performed well. However, Rain has seen a dip in form and so have FaZe. Karrigan won 2 big tournaments with 2 different stand-ins, his IGLing isn't the problem. FaZe started losing faith in him when things went to shit, which is where the coach should've come in to help. NiKo is a weak IGL. He only makes space for himself. So they'll have to look at ChrisJ or someone. Ex6tenz is available but a team that plays such a loose style won't want him. I still believe they should've made Karrigan IGL again because he knows how to handle all these stars. If they wanted to change something, maybe get Janko instead of RobbaN, and replace Rain with Stewie or SuNny.

100% agree with the coach statement. Should be replaced. NiKo is a weak IGL, true, thats why i said he needs some1 to help him. Also, i dont like the idea of having a "young" IGL in a team of experienced players such as olof and guardian. Well i dont think they'd replace rain since NiKo (team leader seems like) says he is the best player to play with etc etc. rain has been inconsistent thats true but I BELIEVE this is mostly because of FaZe's structure. Because on skill term (aim) he is on par with dupreeh. Janko would be great, he'd bring structure to this loose style. IDK if this would be good because its the loose style that made them win what they won in the past.

Look at the top teams right now like Astralis, Team Liquid, Na'Vi, they all have a tactical approach to the game. They all have coaches that help them out with the strats as well as keeping them motivated when things aren't going well. It is too risky for FaZe to try out a tactical approach, but if things don't work out again at the major, they'll definitely have to overhaul their style of play.
