Syman upset Gambit; Spirit overcome Nemiga in overtime

In the first matches of Group A of the CIS Minor Syman beat Gambit 16-12 on Train, while Spirit mustered a 19-15 win over Nemiga on Mirage.

Nemiga started off on the T side of Mirage well, winning the pistol round to grab a 2-0 lead. However, Spirit looked great with rifles, locking down B in the first rifle round to start a streak of five one-sided rounds won (5-2).

Nemiga then got the bomb down in three back-to-back rounds, but failed to coordinate in the post-plant time after time, allowing the Russian side to retake. Nemiga finally added their third round to the board as they crunched on the A site and Kirill "hitMouse" Tsarev found two kills, ending on five for the half as the same man went big in the last round of the half, clutching a 1v3.

Spirit were in control for the majority of the game, but let it slip into overtime

Viktor "somedieyoung" Orudjev's three kills in the pistols set Spirit up to advance their lead in the second half quickly, and Vadim "DavCost" Vasilyev on the AWP having a great matched helped as well (14-7). Igor "lollipop21k" Solodkov's sneaky play on the following force buy was crucial to keeping the Belarussians alive, and it was him, together with the Estonian player Rassim "Jyo" Valijev, that kept Nemiga afloat and got them into overtime. However, Spirit finally put together something on the offensive side in the added rounds, and closed out the game 19-15 to avoid an early upset.

Nikolay "mir" Bityukov's triple in the pistol got Gambit out of the gates on Train, but their round streak was cut short in the first rifle round as Maksim "t0rick" Zaikin got a triple with the M4A4. The underdog squad survived some close rounds early on in the CT side, managing tight retakes, and slowly but surely built momentum. Artem "iDISBALANCE" Egorov was one of the key players of the defensive side, racking up kills with the AWP round after round.

Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov opened up things and his team capitalized on it in round 10 (7-3), with rounds being traded back-and-forth for the rest of the half, which ended 10-5 in favor of Syman. Vladyslav "bondik" Nechyporchuk's four frags got his side the well-needed pistol round, on which they built to make the score 10-9. Syman's one round win was instantly returned on by Rustem "mou" Telepov, who aced to lock down A.

That wasn't enough, though, as while they had a 14-12 lead, Syman hit the B site in back to back rounds, overpowering Gambit's defenses easily, despite them even having a three-man stack in the last round. With that, Syman completed the 16-12 upset over Gambit, moving to the winners match of Group A.
